"Elin and Indiana Jones"

~Indiana Jones / Rescuers Down Under fanfic thingy
~Also starring: the cool alter egos of my buddy and me, our imaginary horses, &c.
~Written in 1993 + maybe later
~Translated tonight
~By: Ratexla

*** SUCK WARNING *** SUCK WARNING ***
indycover
One day when Elin and Millan were with Marahoo*, creaking sounds were heard from the forest. Mara and Blackie, who were their horses, got scared and whinnied.

- Did you hear something, Indy?
- Yes.
- We have to check what it is!
- What if it's a snake?!
- No. Come on now.

When Elin and Millan saw the two dark shadows they cried for Help!!!

- There they are! Indiana Jones roared.
- Marahoo, said Elin and patted Marahoo, now you gotta help us. Cover up the eggs.

Marahoo covered up the eggs.

- Now take one man in each claw and drop them in the creek.

Marahoo did as Elin had said. One of the men, James Bond, got water in his lungs and died. Marahoo ate him. Indiana Jones drifted towards the little waterfall. Elin and Millan didn't notice anything. They were re-sewing James Bond's clothes into sleeping bags and cases. Suddenly an ensanguined** and wet Indy stood before them.

- We're here shooting a film. You're not supposed to be here. In a short while I and the director will come and get the bird. Good bye.

Elin and Millan stared. They had to hide Marahoo and the eggs! Elin got to load the eggs into a box and tuck them in as warmly as she could and Millan packed food. And so they took off and flew southeast, towards Gotland. Down below they saw Indy and the director.

- You're standing half a metre from a snake pit, just so you know! Elin yelled.

Indy roared with horror, but it was just a woodlouse pit.

Elin, Millan and Marahoo were having a great time. It was May 17*** already and the sun was shining. After a few hours they saw a black stripe on the horizon. GOTLAND!!!

They settled down in a forest a few kilometres from Katthammarsvik. Elin recognised a farm. She and Millan had stayed there a few weeks each summer when they were little. Here they would remain until Indy could be assumed to have given up. They started building a hut right away. Then Marahoo wanted food. She found some dead rabbits. Elin lit a fire to keep away mosquitoes and the cold. Then they fell asleep under Marahoo's wings.

The next morning it was totally windless and +33.9 degrees Celsius. Marahoo signed that Elin and Millan had to go to the beach alone, because she had to guard the eggs. Elin and Millan protested, but eventually they went.

The water was freezing but nice and Elin and Millan dove among the giant waves that the warm winds**** brought with them. Suddenly they saw Marahoo writing in the sand and they ran there. "Indy has come here!"

They jumped onto Marahoo and flew to the eggs. They packed them and took off. Suddenly they heard the rattle of a helicopter. All 3 panicked and the girls held on tight, to the strap holding the egg box, as Marahoo dove*****. Indy's pilot (it was of course Indy) couldn't keep up. At last the helicopter disappeared across the Baltic Sea. The relief was great and Marahoo did a few extra flaps of glee.

But back by Marahoo's cave the Indy and the police were waiting. And Marahoo snuck up on them from behind, slowly - then she rushed up and bit their heads off. Happily smacking she ate them, while two equally happy girls put the eggs back into the nest. Now all problems were solved.

Or so they thought. The next day, a police officer came and wondered if they had seen his colleagues.

- No, Millan said. People hardly ever walk here, because there are no paths.
- Oh, said the police officer. Then I'll have to do it the hard way from the start. You're said to have a valuable bird here, according to Harrison Ford. And don't try to deny it.
- Yeah, maybe, said Elin calmly and fetched Marahoo.
- If you say ONE word about her, she might use these, said Millan and knocked on Marahoo's big sharp claws. Besides, no one can catch her. She can go anywhere she wants, so high that no one can see her. To Antarctica, north Africa, Canada, Russia or Australia. Or Iceland. Give up your search, please.

The officer sighed. Then he left.

Officer Hansen tore open the door of the police commissioner's office. The commissioner was sitting in there with coffee and a coconut pastry******.

- Excuse me, but... I've found the bird. It's huge! But it would be a shame to kill it. Can't we...
- HELL NO! DON'T YOU REALISE HOW DAMN MUCH MONEY THERE IS IN DOWN, MEAT, TALONS... EVERYTHING WILL BE FUCKING USED. NO SENTIMENTAL COSSETTING*******!!!
- Listen to me for a bit. There are three eggs in the nest. Get it!
- Eggs? Eggs, you say?! We have to raise the chicks and start a farm! Think of all the money!

The commissioner's mouth watered at the thought of the future and all the omelettes with tender slices of eagle meat. After filling his belly he could contently fall asleep on an eagle skin pillow stuffed with golden down.

- They've got horses there, officer Hansen said suddenly. Two ponies.
- To hell with them! screamed the commissioner cheerily. Let's go.

When they got there, Elin and Millan were saddling up Mara and Blackie. Luckily Marahoo had hidden herself and the eggs. Taken a private flight to the mountains, so to speak.

- Hrm, the commissioner started. Out with the bird!!
- Oh, that! Elin said. It's right there!

She pointed at a magpie that had just settled down in a juniper bush.

- Actually I meant the giant eagle! the commissioner snarled.

Elin turned away and unnoticably pulled a small onion from her pocket. She poked a hole in it with her fingernail and rubbed some juice under her eyes and sniffled. Then she said sadly:

- She's dead.. she flew away to look for food... but... then we heard a shot... and a scream... when we got there, she was already dead... and then a man came and picked up the eggs...
- Are we supposed to believe that? the commissioner wondered. But then he changed his mind. Both the little lassies were weeping so heart-wrenchingly...

- We should have understood that, he said. Then he left.

The next day, Marahoo came back.

MARAHOO WAS FREE!!!!

******************************

*Fucking awesome giant eagle and my main obsession from that Rescuers Down Under movie.
**Ey, cool word.
***Whoopsiedaisy!
****Not so windless all of a sudden!
*****Eagle not dove, dumbass.
******Disgusting.
*******I had never seen this word in me life.

Ratexla's 6 Nine Inch Nails lists

Updated at appropriate times.

The Nine Inch Nails songs I listen to the most...

From Pretty hate machine:
+Head like a hole (The first I heard of it was a wee piece, but I thought I'd like it!)
+Down in it
+Sanctified (Church vibes... leading to The-Great-Hall-from-Harry-Potter vibes... come sit by the fire, Severus.)
+Something I can never have (If I can ever be arsed to make an Alan Rickman Soundtrack version 2.0, this is so going onto it. A song for Severus.)

From Broken:
+Last (*punches the dry mud*)
+Happiness in slavery (The way I let my amusing obsessions enslave me?)
+Physical (Track #98. Yes.)

From The downward spiral:
+Closer (...)
+Big man with a gun (Mostly for lyrics. No, I now really like the whole thing.)
+A warm place
+The downward spiral (Mostly for lyrics. Solutions...)
+Hurt (Beautiful, esp the whispered parts... and others... and, on a side note, the kingfisher in the video, I almost went Christian from all the symbolism in those 3 s. :O )

From The fragile:
+Somewhat damaged
+The wretched
+We're in this together (Must... never... drive... while listening... to... this song... argh - )
+Even deeper
+The great below (One of my deathbed songs. And lullabies, in the meantime.)
+Into the void (But the best part is the video. Ewww, humans...)
+Where is everybody?
+Please
+Starfuckers, Inc.
+I'm looking forward to joining you, finally

From Still:
+Something I can never have (Combines the Desperate Voice and the 21st Century Voice... (see below.)
+The becoming (Def better than the original, whose background screams gives me visions of fleshy pale humans piled up in hell. Think I got it from some medieval painting in some history book. And that is not the music video of my choice. As it happens.)
+The day the world went away (A still blue shiny ocean on a July morning, it beats the original, and I could make a list of all the pwetty things in that video... Here are some of them for now: warm saturated colours, feather, flowers, fine sand, Trent, little black grains, black snake, yellow crystal.)
+And all that could have been
+Leaving hope

From With teeth:
+All the love in the world
+The hand that feeds (The intro subtly comes pounding up from some rebel basement, then the new badass Political!Trent jumps out at you!)
+Love is not enough
+Only (My first Nine Inch Nails song, at least the refrain stuck... 2 years later I remembered the song as "pretty good & sexy"! It turned out I had remembered it partly wrong, but whattehell!)
+Getting smaller
+Beside you in time (The pounding is half the torture! Nah. I started to like this after I saw the trailer for the Beside you in time DVD, which I suppose I will get some time. Lovely elegant magical animalistic sweaty dreamy LIVE NINE INCH NAILS TRAILER. :D )
+Right where it belongs (Good all the way, but when his voice suddenly becomes un-distorted and the crowd cheers... *bristle*)

From Year zero:
+Hyperpower! (The sound of a certain invaded concert? My death of choice. If their aim is true, at least.)
+The beginning of the end (And almost the beginning of the lovely lovely Year zero. I remember when I first put it on...)
+Survivalism (My buddy the Nine Inch Nails-sceptic likes this! :B )
+Me, I'm not (I didn't think much of it at first, but heard it in a new... light in the background of a Trent interview.)
+Capital G (Mostly for lyrics. TrentRez4Prez.)
+The warning (Mostly for lyrics. THE PRESENCE FOR PRESIDENT! *hands the presence a piece of organic hemp cloth*)
+Another version of the truth (Nice lullaby. I just like to listen to and envision each beat. Hypnosis? :9 The first part sounds tense, perhaps building up to... to a nuke explosion! Which of course fucks up the microphone placed next to it, so only a soft noise fades into the second part, my fave. Its... temperature varies. Like the warm air rising now and then from a bus radiator. The warmth is spindly, but at least your frozen fingers cheer (the finger-cheering way) each time it hits them.) But anyway - what would the title have to to with my initial mental video? Anotherversionofthetruth.com shows a peaceful field with some worrying text. If you scrape the picture with your cursor it reveals one of a degraded industrial wasteland. Because... the cute dream came true for a time, and for a chosen few, but since it is presently carried out in an unsustainable manner, the ruined scene beneath is just as true, for others, or will be for all, if not enough is done to prevent it. Both pictures are "brought to you by the US Bureau of Morality". They can create the fleeting dream and the resulting nightmare.)
+In this twilight (Love at first hearing. Our last day.)
+Zero-sum (Love at first hearing. The last song in the history of human civilisation. And there is whispering...)

From Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D:
+The great destroyer remixed by Modwheelmood (Faceslap to me: I, the remix-hater, tossed the CD in the player, listened with interest to the first track because at least that was Saul and one of my fave original tracks - then The great destroyer came on and I found myself grinning fool-happily during the first listen... Oh, a remix that doesn't go BLIP BLIP BLIP and requires dancing. Slow and kind of acoustic. Sadder! I'm not crazy about the original, though I like the lyrics (well, what I imagine they're about... which may be several things...) - now it's perfect. Nearly - where did "the limitless potential" go?)
+Another version of the truth remixed by Kronos & Enrique Gonzalez Müller (I find this as enjoyable as the original version. Squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak, the sound of Godzilla - or some more normal animal - thirsting to death on the Scorched Earth, squeak-squeak-squeak, a bit of a collapse. That second post-apocalyptic part sounds quite HAPPY and could almost pass for a Jane Austen movie soundtrack. If the Austen movie in question were to feature some ivy-covered factory chimneys in the background, aye.)
+In this twilight remixed by Fennesz (Also just as lovely as the original, but this too sounds... happier and (even?) more hopeful. Whaz that swishing overhead - nuclear missiles, mayhap? Siiiiiiinging in the missile rain... You know, that is very interesting, because I heard that most species are much more radiation tolerant than humans. :B Anyway. The final note fades out almost forever, like a supernova sending Trentdust all over the universe, where eventually it may nourish another biosphere. SNIFFLE.)

From Ghosts I-IV:
+3 Ghosts I (Perfect I.)
+12 Ghosts II (Illegal elephant products and rainforest wood Some fearless piano and a ghostly whisp of noise lived ran together in perfect harmony, like a little velvetty grey Arabian horse suddenly being joined by a rockin' Friesian on its morning sand jog. Yes, I did recently watch The young black stallion clips on Youtube. Cuz I never heard of that movie getting released. :p )
+13 Ghosts II (Ever since, after about 2 whole listens, I had it pointed out to me by Meathead and some fangirl that it contains BREATHING. A breathing ghost. *crankup*)
+14 Ghosts II (Perfect II. It reminds me a little of the scene in Gladiator where the cam spins around Team Maximus et Juba in Zucchabar, for they are caught in an upward (or should that be downward?) spiral (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) of success, fame, insanity, adrenaline, arse-sand and groupie-counts! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Then there is that euphoric, drunkedly dancing, howling guitar on TOP of the perfection!)
+20 Ghosts III (Random guitar comes floating into the soundscape. Like a ghost. Or a Dementor.)
+24 Ghosts III (I agree with Meathead. 80's car chase.)
+32 Ghosts IV (The first perfect Ghost to haunt my fave list. Flustering! Kind of porny! However, Meathead's sharing his vision of another 80's car chase cooled me off a little. Fuck.)

Miscellaneous:
+Suck (Some drum 'n' bass version of this Pigface cover.)
+Burn (From the Natural born killers soundtrack. I remember like 1 fragment of that movie... but I like it already. Again. *weep* Fuck. *dab* I tend to listen to this, among others, after, er, heated discussions about -)
+Dead souls (Joy Division cover from the soundtrack of The crow. I have it on CD, but this live version from the Reading Festival in 2007 is even... even...)
+Past the mission (With Tori Amos. *slrrrrp* Orange chocolate. Can I get the multitracks though plzthnx, I can barely hear Trent. Still, my heart vibrates with the frequency of his voice. Btw, I've now checked out 3 Tori albums and my mum likes her too.)
+Falling (Quake track without official title.)
+(Intro) Whisper (Outro) (Quake track without official title.)
+Pulse (Quake track without official title.)
+First born (Quake track without official title.)
+Driver down (From the Lost highway soundtrack. Hmm, on my unofficial compilation CD it's called Drive her down, which is implied to be a reference to...)
+Metal (Gary Numan cover. Love at first hearing due to much sexiness.)
+Deep (From the Tomb raider soundtrack. I don't claim to like it only because everyone hates it.)
+Non-entity
+Flyentology (With El-P. Ahhh! The Desperate Voice... but not enough of it...)
+Break (With Saul Williams. There's some Trent voice in it somewhere...)
+WTF! (With Saul Williams.)

-------------------------------------

My mum's favourite Nine Inch Nails songs... Why yes, I enjoy making lists.

+Terrible lie
+And all that could have been
+Leaving hope
+Only ("This one's good too! A few songs are difficult but other than that they're pretty good! One gets used to it! You have INDOCTRINATED me! I let it get under my skin... I let you pump it through my - veinssssahhhhhhhhh...")
+Right where it belongs
+Zero-sum

-------------------------------------

Works to which Year zero gives me more or less intense flashbacks...

Books:
+Collapse by Jared Diamond (He, however, claims we are NOT doomed from the start. *looks from jared to trent as if at some tennis game* Then I found this title among the Year zero banned media and died of happiness. But not of surprise... Btw: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is also among the banned media. That killed me again. TRENT - ?! :D Oh, wonderful banned media... in general. *extends must-read list* And - the Year zero sites are visible to us because the Solutions Backwards Initiative group sent them back through time? :) Hence the distorted look of them? Ahhhhhhhhh.)
+On the beach by Nevil Shute (Soy milkshake, check. Zero-sum, check. Cyanide pill, check. Euthanised pets, check. The sand is cooling.)
+Lady Chatterley's lover by D.H. Lawrence (I haven't got any English edition in my possession, but something the lover says about... what calms him...)
+The stand by Stephen King (Bloody repopulation. Anyway, I heard that fragments of it are visible on one of the Year zero sites...! Hmm, can't find it on the Banned media page... No matter.)

Films:
+Children of men ('Twas the chimneys. Bloody repopulation again.)
+E.T. (Environmentalist from space, kind of like the Presence. If the latter is an alien.)
+Soldier (Post-apocalyptic society on a garbage planet. I believe it is called kitchen sink realism.)
+The wild blue yonder (I could just go ahead and officially proclaim its ending my favouritest ever ever.)
+Terminator 1 (Love. And dogs. Love.)
+Terminator 2 (This film is so perfect that I haven't even got the DVD. I mentioned the Terminator movies in the review I had to write for On the beach.)
+Terminator 3

---------------------------

Supposedly Year zero-related books I have not read...

+Oh, PROOOOOOOOBABLY 1984, by George Orwell
+They thought they were free by Milton Mayer (Trent mentioned it in a certain interview, could be useful reading...)
+Swan song by Robert McCammon (Recommended in a Nine Inch Nails blog comment. "It's about life after nuclear war, but it's like Stephen King meets....I don't know. Weird stuff, and not like real life, but interesting just the same.")
+Left behind: A novel of the Earth's last days by Tim F. LaHaye (Recommended in a Nine Inch Nails blog comment... "...basically the Book of Revelation set to fictional characters, all that YZ encompasses is right there."
+The road by Cormac McCarthy (Recommended in a Nine Inch Nails blog comment! :O "...a post-apocalyptic story about a father and son crossing America after a nuclear war.")

I want to eat you, books.

---------------------------

Some shit to love about Trent/Nine Inch Nails...

Random:
+His ad against fur
+My x favourite songs
+His Artistic Integrity... even while he was still on a record label
+The Presence
+His dogs
+The Year zero-related artwork
+His treatment of fans on a small scale (judging by what Everybody reports)
+His treatment of fans on a large scale
+The Ghosts video contest which resulted in many a violent clash between battling, camera-slinging fans film festival... Yeah, I AM gonna get my filming off the ground. Soon.
+His new method of music distribution
+The range between emotions and between eras expressed in the songs (Range also happens to be one of the things I appreciate most in... actors... In this case, I love trying and failing to believe that it's the same bloke performing March of the pigs and Another version of the truth, or blooper-giggling on MTV. Or it could all just be my a) people-prejudices b) prosopagnosia. He seems so sincere, and (as someone pointed out) does not appear to be slaving under some stereotypical image of himself but will curse and giggle as he pleases. :9 Aye, it's fun to shock people.)
+His unwillingness to discuss lyrics (Me and poetry... :p I was getting a bit nervous about interpreting things the wrong way because doing so will cause hairy palms and lightning strikes... when I could guess at any meaning at all, that is. After I had heard him say what he said, the lyrics entered a less solid state and trickled into every corner of the unit known as Yoze, working as a key that would more often than before find a fit. Thanks for your blessing, dahling. :B )
+His ability to get off drugs
+His ability to get off record labels
+His sense of humour
+His blog
+His cursing

Vocals:
+His whispering voice
+His singing voice
+His 21st century voice
+His desperate voice
+His speaking voice (Bloody 'ell. I hereby declare that Trent has my favourite voice of all non-Brits. "...fucked us", "Charles, that is", "...while you're hiding in the trees", "...that you're the reason..." *lobotomises self with ice pick in order to block all other distracting sensory perceptions*)

Year zero sites:
+The Mailstrom with keys
+Grace the Teacher
+The Hour of Arrival
+Operation Swamp 0000
+The popup message from Consolidated Mail Systems
+The Situational Anxiety Disorder Quiz
+The Price of Treason
+Hollywood in Memoriam
+The Viability index

Yoze is visually oriented a shallow bitch:
+His eyes
+His 2005 hair
+His height
+His ~2000 eyeliner
+His nose
+His 1994 hair
+His name
+His eyebrows

-----------------------------

Oh, to have been there for the release of...

...Pretty hate machine back in 1989!
The first Nine Inch Nails album! My age of 6 at the time should not have hindered me, ffs, seeing how my taste for rock was founded no later than 1990 or so (when I got my first real record and attended my first concert - double-thank you, Gianna Nannini). I wonder if I heard any Nine Inch Nails hit on the radio in 1989? What if I had noticed it, and liked it, and - and - uh...

...The downward spiral back in 1994!
The most famous Nine Inch Nails album, I suppose. The breakthrough? So I wouldn't have been able to say "I was among the first 4 people to discover Nine Inch Nails" - something I still cannot say, ACTUALLY. I also would have been subjected to 1 cancelled Swedish concert and 1 decade of waiting for Nine Inch Nails to return here, but at least I would have had the live experience by now. (TIMES 2 OR SUMMAT!) And the ability to brag about my decade of fan-suffering. (Speaking of suffering, think I had my first suicidal thoughts in 1994. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. On the other hand, my English sucked. Harder.)

...The fragile back in 1999!
The most anticipated album of the 90's? The one that would Save Rock? :)

...With teeth back in 2005!
Trent survived, Trent got clean and Trent made another album. That would kind of have been cause for celebration. As would said album's rockiness.

...Year zero back in the thickening fogs of April 2007!
My favourite Nine Inch Nails album and its wicked, mysterious, confusing surrounding art project!

...Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D back in - oh dear!
The record shop said they expected to get it on November 28, 2007. I stomped in there around noon and they had not unpacked it yet. Mrrrrr. Shouldn't someone have grown tired of tossing and turning, unlocked the shop around 3am and unpacked a few CD:s before opening time? :p They need me.

...Ghosts I-IV back on March 2, 2008!
Only ~19 years late, wee I shall knowingly witness the release of a completely new Nine Inch Nails album. According to the stats, it will contain something fucking marvellous. Actually I still missed this release by 4 hours. BLADDY 'ELL! It happened just like this:
December!Trent: *posts cosy mysterious studio photos at nin.com*
Trent on February 7: "We have been very busy doing secret things. We’ll start to tell you about them soon."
Trent on February 16: "2 weeks"
Ratexla: *freerides on others' calculations that this means march 1*
March 1: *arrives quietly*
Ratexla: "Dare I go to the sci-fi con today? In case NIN.com gets updated? Btw, no, fuck the sci-fi con, I'll go tomorrow... but now I got all geared up to go, so I'll just check out the record shop for a bit."
Trent on March 1: "Soon..."
Ratexla: *returns home to find above post*
Ratexla: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Ratexla: *recalls meathead's recurring definition of trent's definition of "soon"*
Ratexla: "Just in case something really will happen on March 1, I'll spend half the night in front of NIN.com, commenting and reloading. Because I cannot wait to see what will happen, and I don't want to look like a shitty fan with a fucking life."
NIN.com: "Soon..."
NIN.com: "Soon..."
NIN.com: "Soon..."
Ratexla: "It's the perfect time for me to distribute those 150 Animal Rights Sweden pamphlets tonight though. Trent would understand. [Tough shit if he wouldn't.]"
NIN.com: "Soon..."
NIN.com: "Soon..."
Fellow blog commentator: "If he really posted that from Hong Kong, he's probably asleep right now."
Ratexla: "Good point. I will sleep until it's morning in Hong Kong. Or even a few hours more, so I can stay up tomorrow morning... and reload."
Ratexla: "SNORE."
Ratexla's paper gnome phone: *BEEP*
NIN.com: "Soon..."
Ratexla: *gets around the paper district abnormally quickly*
NIN.com: "Soon..."
March 2: *is*
Ratexla: "Hey, I'm going to the sci-fi con... If you're gonna be surfing anyway, could you check NIN.com every now and then and call me if it's updated?"
Folks: "WTF?! YOU ARE TAKING THIS TOO FAR!"
Ratexla: *stalks sci-fi stars (but first, makes another shocking discovery)*
NIN.com: "Soon..."
NIN.com: "Soon..."
Ratexla: "Yawn. Well, it's no longer March 1 anywhere, not in Hong Kong, not in LA... So... whatever will happen may happen at any time during the next few weeks now, eh? Sweet, I can go to bed."
Ratexla: "SNORE."
Trent: "Tick tock... Tick tock..."
Ratexla: "SNORE."
Trent: "2 hours"
Ratexla: "SNORE." :)
Ratexla: *dreams about tori amos and trent, fyi*
Ratexla: *cruelly kicks computer into action*
Trent: "Ghosts I-IV - The new Nine Inch Nails record is available RIGHT NOW."
Ratexla: *blink*

...ah, fuck it! Option 30's album, of which I hear there are 1000 copies!
I'm looking, I'm looking... :)

Ratexla's unprofessional & not very annual Oscar... non-bets

Con commentz. Carin may herewith consider her wish for a certain review granted (it deals mainly with pants and slaughter videos).

Best Motion Picture of the Year
-Atonement (2007): Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Paul Webster
-Juno (2007): Lianne Halfon, Mason Novick, Russell Smith
-Michael Clayton (2007): Sydney Pollack, Jennifer Fox, Kerry Orent
-No Country for Old Men (2007): Ethan Coen, Joel Coen, Scott Rudin
-There Will Be Blood (2007): Paul Thomas Anderson, Daniel Lupi, JoAnne Sellar

+This is starting out well as I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY OF THE FILMS IN THE MOST "IMPORTANT" CATEGORY. That means they have nominated the wrong movies. However, I read about There will be blood yesterday and, uh, it's about oil and stuff, in the olde days. Still it reminds me of Nine Inch Nails' newer work. :D

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
-George Clooney for Michael Clayton (2007)
-Daniel Day-Lewis for There Will Be Blood (2007)
-Johnny Depp for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
-Tommy Lee Jones for In the Valley of Elah (2007)
-Viggo Mortensen for Eastern Promises (2007)

+Cuz Johnny was working with Alan & Sacha... Well, nothing wrong with Johnny either. I'm surprised I'm not obsessed with him. Aaaaaaaaaand I HAVE seen Sweeney Todd! Flashback to Earthlings.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
-Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007)
-Julie Christie for Away from Her (2006)
-Marion Cotillard for Môme, La (2007)
-Laura Linney for The Savages (2007)
-Ellen Page for Juno (2007)

+Cate is my fave among these! Elizabeth I II is on my gonna-see list, even though I didn't get shit of the first one. *bites into another flax seed*

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
-Casey Affleck for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)
-Javier Bardem for No Country for Old Men (2007)
-Philip Seymour Hoffman for Charlie Wilson's War (2007)
-Hal Holbrook for Into the Wild (2007)
-Tom Wilkinson for Michael Clayton (2007)

+Um, yeah, Into the wild is on my will-see list. I just gotta read the book first. After I've read 64 other books. I heard that it's about/for the kind of people who have read too much Jack London (my fave piece of fiction is THE CALL OF THE WILD!) and Henry Thoreau (my fave piece of non-fiction is THE FUTURE OF LIFE, WHICH CONTAINS A CHAPTER ABOUT THOREAU! I also wanna read Thoreau's book about civil disobedience. Dunnask. :D ). The background story sounds like something I would have liked to do when I was 12 and suicidal...er. Who is Hal Holbrook? This was a tough choice since Casey Affleck is rumoured to be best buddies with my fave piece of mankind, JOAQUIN PHOENIX!

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role
-Cate Blanchett for I'm Not There. (2007)
-Ruby Dee for American Gangster (2007)
-Saoirse Ronan for Atonement (2007)
-Amy Ryan for Gone Baby Gone (2007)
-Tilda Swinton for Michael Clayton (2007)

+Fuck it, let's get Cate another one.

Best Achievement in Directing
-Paul Thomas Anderson for There Will Be Blood (2007)
-Ethan Coen, Joel Coen for No Country for Old Men (2007)
-Tony Gilroy for Michael Clayton (2007)
-Jason Reitman for Juno (2007)
-Julian Schnabel for Scaphandre et le papillon, Le (2007)

+The one I'd most like to see in this category cuz... I've briefly attempted to imagine such a life.

-The Savages (2007): Tamara Jenkins

+I have seen a few minutes of Ratatouille... (In Swedish, alas.) Rats rule. The Juno trailer actually sounded terribly promising, but seeing how it's from the anti-death lobby... (Yeah yeah yeah, I know it officially ISN'T... *puts recycled Al foil on head... or somewhere else*)

Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published
-Atonement (2007): Christopher Hampton
-Away from Her (2006): Sarah Polley
-Scaphandre et le papillon, Le (2007): Ronald Harwood

-Transformers (2007): Scott Farrar, Scott Benza, Russell Earl, John Frazier

+Was it Compass that enchanted Carin so greatly, or was it Enchanted? I'll just take my chances with Compass. *shrug* Though Johnny Sparrow is visually tasty.

Best Animated Feature Film of the Year
-Persepolis (2007): Vincent Paronnaud, Marjane Satrapi
-Ratatouille (2007): Brad Bird
-Surf's Up (2007): Ash Brannon, Chris Buck

+I made a mental note to see Persepolis... I think... and if I could find it after it finished its 3-second run in local theatres. That is. Rats still rule, but they also don't need me support because they've got Disney now. There there.

-Salim Baba (2008): Tim Sternberg, Francisco Bello
-Sari's Mother (2006): James Longley

+... ... ... I'll just pick the oldest movie. Perhaps it's unfairly struggling if it needed 2 years to get recognition. If only the same attention would be given to some of my struggling faves. *weep*

Best Short Film, Animated
-Même les pigeons vont au paradis (2007): Samuel Tourneux, Vanesse Simon
-I Met the Walrus (2007): Josh Raskin
-Madame Tutli-Putli (2007): Chris Lavis, Maciek Szczerbowski
-Moya lyubov (2006): Aleksandr Petrov

Evaluation of 2007

List stolen from Carin (who stole it from Ida).

1. What day in 2007 will you always remember?
August 7, when I read the interview that led me to Nine Inch Nails, and got offered my first (and possibly last) job related to my education.
2. Did you keep any of your new year's resolutions?
I don't make them. When I don't procrastinate (which I do 99% of the fucking time) I prefer to Waste No Time. :) I mean... I prefer to waste no time even when I do procrastinate. It just doesn't occur. :p
3. Did any of your friends become a parent this year?
Sarah, on July 25.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
I noticed no such event, though it probably happened to a few bed mites.
5. What countries did you visit?
UK and Norway.
6. Is there anything missing from 2007 that you want in 2008?
A real job = something one can potentially do for 40 h/week (and where I'm not just a sub either). Oh, and the end of oppression, plus the rise of a massive, SUFFICIENT environmental movement. FO REAL!
7. Did you do something this year that you've never done before?
I got a (2-day) job that had something to do with my education.
8. What was your greatest achievement in 2007?
Well... I secured meself a master's thesis project for the spring of 2008... *shriek*
9. Biggest mistake?
Some more crushing of Tellus with my sweaty filthy oversized ecological footprint? Hopefully the foot was at least shrinking. And somewhat compensated for. Fuck.
10. Have you been ill or injured?
Nothing incapacitating except cramps... The fucking bitch...
11. Best buy?
The CD Year zero by Nine Inch Nails.
12. On what did you spend the most money?
Hopefully on conservation, but possibly on CD:s... *checks data* Largest one-time expense: iPod, used.
13. Did anything make you really happy?
My folks decided rather suddenly to quit eating chickens, pigs and eggs. For a moment there, I stopped laughing at certain people who have got Faith In Humanity............................. but nothing has come of it yet. My mum later said she's thinking of becoming a vegetarian (I suspect she means pescatorian) but she/they are still working on those WALLS! The folks seemed to be thinking about animal industry videos, so I guess I'll have to show them some more. Except, you know, they scream and run and hide behind their walls.
14. What songs will always remind you of 2007?
Probably most of what Nine Inch Nails did 1989-2007, FOR SOME REASON. :D
15. Were you happier or sadder this year compared to previous years?
I don't know. Hey Jared, who's winning the ecological race? At least I got to be high on crush drug and EXERCISE!
16. What do you wish you had done more?
Spread animal rights propaganda (BOO!), saved the environment, studied, read, gone to concerts, shot racehorses after all.
17. What do you wish you hade done less?
Destroyed the environment, accidentally stepped on snails in the night, eaten stuff due to boredom, surfed due to boredom, slightly but stupidly fucked up at work.
18. How did you spend Xmas?
I eventually decided to go to auntie's place with the others, mostly in order to see people's pressie reactions, sprinkle some weirdness, explain that The inevitable rise and liberation of NiggyTardust! that I gave away was not actually stolen despite being home-burned, and get an extra hour of cycling. I left early and listened to my new Manson CD.
19. Did you fall in love this year?
Crush, affection. :)
20. Fave show on TV?
Hmmm... Planet Earth? :D Interesting and pwetty! Hopefully it woke some latent environmentalism everywhere. Actually I only caught a few eps, but am considering getting the DVD.
21. Best book you read this year?
Fact: Collapse: How societies choose to fail or succeed by Jared Diamond. 8O Fiction: Harry Potter and the deathly hallows by JK Rowling. XD
22. Greatest musical discovery?
*gag* NINE INCH NAILS!
23. What did you do on your b-day in 2007?
I received and listened to With teeth by Nine Inch Nails. Fucking Aunt Flo arrived unexpectedly early but did not beat me up too bad. I also played around with the Terrible But Great GIS at school and hated it. Then I had a McBean *slrrrp* and saw This is England with my mum. &c.
24. Is there anything that would have improved your year?
See point 6. Moreover, if I had read a certain Trent interview in the local paper on July 30... I MIGHT have checked out Year zero and become a fan in time... to get my arse to the Stockholm gig on August 7!? :O "Just a little reminder of all the what abouts and all the might have, could have beens..."
25. How would you describe your style in 2007?
Um. Well-worn and black.
26. The best new people you met?
*mutter* Peeeeeeople? :S Well, I met RealLife!Carin and some Harry Potter actors, and then I started commenting on the Nine Inch Nails blog and met some nice people there.
27. Disappointment of the year?
Our collective ecological footprint is still too big and the moral circles of some are still too wee. Concerning my personal little life, I would not yet say "the continued absence of a Real Job to keep up my sleeve for post-graduation" because the job I did get led me to Nine Inch Nails which was nice and possibly important and I may still get a Real Job. :B

& now... we shall dangle Sincerity off a cliff.

The following post is fucking confused and probably confusing.

Last few months, I've been letting simmer thoughts about, um, Sincerity. I incidentally became obsessed with Nine Inch Nails around the time I joined Facebook. Trent seems to be all about sincerity, and on Facebook I wrote shit that my classmates (Facebook allies) had no previous idea of, which might change their perception of me (as if the risk of their reading + giving a shit + minding is great...) and kiiiiiiill them with shock. I'm not saying I have become a clear blue, table-dancing Goblet of Sincerity. Just simmering going on, mostly. Minor experiments, maybe.

There was once a lovely, unfindable TV series called Once a thief.

Once a thief char: "Wow... Honesty is... refreshing!"

The sensation of...
a) exposing myself to pieces of perceived reality from which I would normally shy away for simplicity's sake... (Trent has spoken of watching certain movies "to be disturbed"...)
b) speaking my mind where once I would have shut up for reasons of immediate comfort... (Trent never let the label have their way with him...)
...resembles that of letting a train or ocean wave hit me. :q

When I think of a) here I think mostly of visual media, because I am not so intensely brainwashed that I wish to... uh, do anything about my arachnophobia, go to war, look people in the eyes or listen to them eating bananas. Some phenomena in front of which I could throw myself:

-E.T.! Aye! Hard to watch. E.T. represents all that is innocent, oppressed and abused. XC
-The alternative version of the Into the void video by Nine Inch Nails. :D
-The shining. Maybe I should quit running for tea every time the rotting woman comes on.
-Earthlings. Not that I need motivation, not that it's a feel-good docu, but I have decided to watch this some time soon. Just so you don't have to wonder... in case you wake up without a universe one day.
-Negative environmental news
-Bush speeches

Enough exposure to heavy shit such as the above might result in, I dunno, being swept off my feet? Panic attacks? Nothing? Shrinkological defense walls going BOINGGGGGGG? Walls crumbling?

:) :( Could be interesting, or not.

On to b).

Once a thief again.
Mac: "'Victor, Victor...' What do you SEE in that guy?"
Li Ann: "He's... honest."
Mac: "That is SO overrated."
Li Ann: "Yeah. All my life I've lived in a world where honesty was for idiots. And being with Victor is like... being in daylight for the first time."

Awwww. Ohhhh. Well. Spring sun picnics are nice. But I do love me shades and me baseball cap and my night-coloured garments.

SOME reasons why one I "can't" be constantly sincere (well, I could try, one always has a choice, just that one alternative is sometimes death and/or eternal shame):

-It might be defamation
-It might be abetment
-That's not how brainwashing works (and that's just too bad because my marketing book is not an amazing pageturner). Hehe, saying "that's not how X works" sounds like you know yer stuff well, no closer explanations needed. :D
-It might be a fucking long story where it would not help to start with "I know what this looks like, but..." because people still get mentally blocked and hysterical and shake their pitchforks and cannot be bothered to read the 4 pages of philosophy that could explain all perfectly and why would they risk wasting their time since everyone thinks they should read up on Everyone's respective philosophies
-I may not have thought things through (not being the finest, smartest and most logical of philosophers). History shows I can *gasp* change my little mind. You know it's better to shut up and let people believe you're an idiot, than to -
-I am so severely media-damaged, Jante-ridden, philosophy-bombed, clueless of who I am, data-missing, detail-fixated, unsure of WTF "who" means, and prejudiced that I cannot be sure if some opinions are really mine, or optimal for me, or utilitaristically correct WTF I THINK.
-Obviously the issue may not be important anyway

Magazine: "What do you do for a living?"
Trent: "Peel back the skin and show people what's underneath."

(Nine Inch Nails-Induced Terminator Flashback #2.) Loads of skin-peeling going on. And what's underneath? I spy a rather nice strong shiny metal endoskeleton, at the end of the day. If I, on the other hand, were to peel off too much of my skin -

Planet of shit... Facebook closes down in horror... :B

****************************

The shrinkological defense walls. I wonder if mine are unusually thick or thin or neither. Seen signs of both "extremes". And I wonder what it would be like without walls. There's got to be a mental illness caused by their absence. Maybe that's -

They are undoubtedly useful, but I'd like to demolish some of them. Working on it. (You should try it.) With a little plastic hammer.

*****************************

Just sayin.

May Bob have mercy on our dirty little hearts.

Wow. Nobody can discover Nine Inch Nails later than I did.

Not my fave... band? ever ever ever, but I found it like this... Something like this:

~Around friggin 1997 I read an ole entertainment mag featuring a list that was pooooooossibly titled "How to scare grandma away". One of the tips was "Play Nine Inch Nails. Especially the song -" WHAT SONG DID THEY RECOMMEND, if any?! :) Closer, perhaps? Well. I had never heard (of) Nine Inch Nails, but remembered the name for eternity as it gave me a vision of curled, filthy, world-record-long finger nails. Scratching chalkboards and silken skin. Uhu! And seeing how they were recommended in this way, I figured it must be the most evil, badass, noisy band in the universe. Good to know - in 1997 I was concocting a cunning plan on how to scare realtors and would-be buyers from our lovely rental summer house. :) It involved presenting a spotless room to my anxious folks on inspection, and whipping up a post-apocalyptic room to show the buyers 10 minutes later. I made a drawing describing the method. (Display a frightening road sign on the wall, spill substances on the floor, etc.) It was not at all the most exquisite picture ever produced. And it is gone. Somewhere. :C *weep* Hehe, the above wasn't that important. Good times though. (The plan was never realised and the house was sold.) But I wonder if Nine Inch Nails was streaming from the drawing's portable CD player? Maybe not... I knew no lyrics after all. And we listened mostly to E-Type that summer. Badass. How annoying, I SHOULD have checked out Nine Inch Nails that very autumn! XC Once I had read that list it WAS, officially or not, on my list of bands to check out briefly before my death, even though I hardly expected to enjoy... the noise. But there were other artists, more interesting... *shuddering sob*

~2003 brought sweet RICKMANIA. On IMDB:s Alan forum the Snape fans were going and going and going and going and going and going on about some Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails (or so it feels). Aha, that scary band. Well, I suppose I clicked on some picture link to see what I thought about their comparisons between him and Snape. "Maybe a bit." :/ I clicked Back and forgot. Nowadays: "Icarenotifheisamericangobackto1994thento2006-andsmuggletheboyintosnapesworstmemoryscenedammit!"

~In the summer of 2005 I had figured out how to record things from the TV to my beloved DVD recorder, so I kept MTV on and without food or sleep I waited for my fave videos to pop up so that I could make a nice DVD version of old times' MTV tapes. A video I did not care to deev was... (this must have been in 2005, right?) Only by Nine Inch Nails. And that is the only Nine Inch Nails song I remember being played on anything I listened to or watched... :( So I listened. "That doesn't sound like the most badass band in the universe. Sounds kinda normal. Can't get a good look at the pin-creature though." He sounded older than I had imagined. Had I imagined anything? In any case... That was not the worst voice I had heard, I noted in the back of me head and moved on with my life. If only I had not...

~In 2006, I was too busy worrying about something all through the summer job hunting season, maybe that's why I had to make do with the paper gnome mission... :)

~...without which I might not have landed THIS year's district. (And if I had been jolly and normal, I might have found another job.) The paper gnome gets a few papers of her own each day, if she does the job right. On August 7, 2007, I was browsing backwards through the entertainment section of each paper as usual and spotted (in a paper I wouldn't have read but for my gnome job) some boring headline saying... nothing about Nine Inch Nails or the Reznor bloke, but it was an interview with him, I noticed. Thought I'd read it. I did. Wooooooooooo!

Ratexla's diary: "He seems nice and his new record seems cool. I should check. It's called Year zero."
Interviewer, magically calling from the page: "Did you know they're playing in Stockholm tonight?! :D"
Ratexla: "Whatever. Wonder if I'm gonna fall in love with Trent. His singing WAS pretty nice, and here he complains about people who think global warming is a myth. Is it hot in here or is it just Trent?"

I considered the matter for a few days, ordered the CD, survived the death-plunging and returned home to the newly arrived Year zero. Late, so I soon hopped into bed and hit Play.

Year zero: *BOINK BZZZZZZZZZZZ SCREEEEEECH*
Ratexla: "Oh... fuck, the sound of dustbins rolling downhill. It was to be expected. I doubt I can get used to this, but the idea was cool nevertheless, so I had to check. Tomorrow I will read the interesting, inaudible lyrics, prolly put the CD on the shelf forever, or sell it, and be happy for the experience." *CRASH*

The next day I did read all the lyrics and was awaaaaaaake during the last 2 songs - In this twilight and Zero-sum, both of which I liked instantly. :)

Ratexla: "I will at least listen to THESE again!" *goes trentsurfing*
Fan on forum: "I had to listen to Year zero a few times before I could like it..."
Ratexla: "Def more chances for you, little CD..."
Site-owning fan: "Nine Inch Nails is not everyone's cuppa, but if you are meant to be a fan, you will find your way to it..."
Ratexla: "Beautiful."

By nightfall, I didn't find it too bad, even musically, AND I was tolerably high on crush drug. :) After a coupla days, several songs were brain-splattingly listenable. Steel in the night, down the road from Terminator 2... (Oh, today yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the start of THAT war, innit. :O ) Flicking a raven feather to tickle my apocalyptic fancies. When I lie dying of radiation sickness, perhaps I can pull the CD booklet out of my torn, burned pocket and read a little, unless the nuclear blast has skinned me like a cat.

2 days after Year zero I was ready to drill my way through the Himalayas with a toothbrush to go and get the first album. I just took the bus though.

Ratexla: "Severus...?"

2 days later I got the famous The downward spiral, and unless postal service fucks up with The fragile, that's on its way... :) Thereafter I shall no longer be confined to merely standing around record shops, caressing, sniffing, licking, biting, sucking, hugging and ogling With teeth, nooooooo... :9 Damn, now I've hyped it for myself. :p And it will turn out to be one of them things that feature 2 LOVELY HIT SONGS plus x rotting shrimp corpses.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease come back to somewhere near me... soon... I must see Nine Inch Nails live before I die. (Or after, if necessary. Though in the latter case I would lack vision.) By still refusing to abbreviate the name I am vainly trying to make up for the partly lost years since I came to know it. :p Not only concerts were missed... During my Trentsurfing I found a group huddled in a forum thread, speaking of how Nine Inch Nails had been like a friend to them in their lives as outcasts. 1997-1998! I was blissfully ignorant of many things that now drive me off 99th floor window ledges... But I was never more... decidedly depressed or... intensely, continuously suicidal. I lived, as you can see. Undiagnosed, not super-serious, got up in the mornings, never fingered razorblades (uh... I had none, and I'd prefer pills), and was probably worried about being so abnormal and ugly and bloke-less, or about my shortage of friends. Friends like Nine Inch Nails? :B

Lowly anticipated DOUBLE Harry Potter 5 premiere report!

Photos.

It seemed that only Carin, kind-of-Stockholmer, total Thewlisian and London virgin, would join me this time.

JULY 1: Carin took the train down to me since she did not wish to fly alone to London. (Which meant that some plane fuel was saved!) After squeeing over the angelic Ellendog’s carrot tail she spent the last night on Earth in our guest room. (Having one sounds kinda snobbish! :O )

JULY 2: And in the morning we departed. Because of Carin’s aeroplane anxiety I expected her to be a somewhat hysterical flyer who would claw her surrounding passengers to a pulp before jumping out the window, causing the death of us all. She just had ear trouble. Awww. *morphine*

Unless someone somewhere fucked up, our flights were of course carbon neutral. :D

Door to door: ~6 hours. We rode with Terravision and, as usual, stayed at Piccadilly Backpackers, I know it’s OK and more importantly it is VERY close to the action!

Carin & Yoze: *burst thru hostel door rendering all onlookers breathless, blinded and weak-kneed*
Yoze: “The lift is usually kaputt, HAHA!”
Lift: *lifts ‘em... just not at break-neck speeeeeeeeeeed*
Yoze: “All right, we’ll probably get to stay on like the 6TH FLOOR or some such extreme altitude.”
Hostel guy: “Welcome, your room is number 709!”
Yoze: “Doh!”

Carin had refused to stay in a dormitory for fear of getting murdered in the night. My fearlessness of dormitories is probably completely irrational, so aight, our room was just for us. Luxurioussssssssss. We bounced back out into London for a taste of adventure:
~Leicester Square, where some CONSTRUCTION was going on for the premiere :O
~Sci-fi shop Forbidden Planet. Mmmm, Chucky dolls and Lupin’s wand...
~Oxford Street
~Green Park
~A ride in a real double-decker bus, OMFG! Although the first attempt involved Carin hopping onto one which LEFT while I was still on the street, digging for my card! We survived and where shortly reunited. :p
~Hamleys the 7 floor toy shop where I may have seen Sacha and where we now hugged all their cuddly toy animals, screamed to the universe that we needed them, and bought some sweet fuel.

JULY 3: I, warrior of Leicester Square, got up at “3.30am” which was in reality 2.30am as I had neglected to turn back my mobile phone clock, and crept out to Leicester Square just to see how many campers we would have to battle and stomp on. Not an overwhelming number – they were lined up along half the western park fence, perhaps. I returned to an awake Carin in our luxurious room and sucked the last luxury out of it by resting, with no hope of sleep, for another half hour. The rest of the night we spent next to the wall of the mighty Odeon... Very near the spot I had dreamed of since November 6, 2005. A few campers there as well, of course, but if only Justitia would kick our arses in the right direction, we figured we deserved a patch of TOP NOTCH FRONT ROW BARRIER. A barrier which was not to be erected (huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh) for another... day. :p

At dawn, we moved. Across the street. Still with top notch front row patches in our pockets. We moved to a lovely empty spot for 2 minutes, it was the press pit. (Think I did the same thing in 2005.) It was terribly annoying not to know how the barriers would be arranged, thus having no clue of one’s chances. We stood/sat in a line stretching along the eastern park fence most of the time, I believe... Playing games, reading The Half-Blood Prince :D, talking to a Mexican Pothead, writing in me diary, drawing, eating dried pineapple and getting our feet mashed by passing trucks. AND HOW THE HELL WERE THEY PLANNING TO ARRANGE THE BARRIERS?! In a sucky way for us, a cop said. But an extra piece of star-pen might be created and some stars ushered into it so they could meet even us!

A plastic tape was rolled out in front of our line, magical, for it would cause any tape-breaker to be chucked across the Thames. Or just into it. Tied to a sack of... uh, nails. “Stay calm, and you will all have your place by the barrier!” Alas, the cops were unable to control the crowd welling forth when the tape was removed, so Carin and I tragically landed in 3RD OR 4TH ROW behind the barrier perpendicular to the Odeon. We had probably not stomped on enough non-camping, queue-cheating pseudo-fans. LUCKILY, a wee stretch of barrier also ran along the Odeon wall... and there was room for us. I grabbed this chance of close encounters and proper photos, judging the spot to be of roughly the same quality as Lo’s and mine in 2005... Someone must take a detour there... right?! At first Carin wanted to stand looking into the park instead, so she could at least see everyone, but joined me eventually. Pineapple all around.

It seemed that only one park gate was open to the public. So, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, I bet the queue system worked well there. Today’s arrangement of barriers and stars inside the park was also used in 2005, so it is safe to assume that it is now... permanent, popular with the organisers? And that is why I AM camping FO’ REAL in 2008! Autumn! Yeah! And in 2010! SUMMER!

Weather was fine most of the day. But I had said it would rain. It did in 2004. It did in 2005. It did now. Thunder straight above arrived together with the stars. We were cosy under a wee roof, but the 500000000000000 people in front, not having acknowledged the existence of hats (for protection of cameras) and shirts (for keeping autograph books dry), KEPT THEIR UMBRELLAS UP, UP AND IN THE WAY. I so never did, in any year, at times that mattered.

Rain: *stops for a bit*
Umbrellas: “Damdidamdidam!”
Crowd: “UMBRELLAS DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN!”
Umbrellas: “...”
Early guests: “Recognise US and win £8000!”
Umbrellas: “Sigh.” *crack*
Yoze: “Is that Rupert?!”
Lone raindrop: *splat*
Umbrellas: *WHOOSH*
Crowd: “IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIH! REMUUUUUUUUUUUS!”
Carin: “OMGWTFDAVID?! WHERE IS HE? WAS THAT HIM? HE WALKED INTO THE CINEMA! IF IT WAS HIM!? I MISSED DAVID! MUUUUUURDER ME, YOZE! KILL ME!”
Yoze: *peppers umbrellas with machine gun* ”Nah, THERE’S Rupert, eh?”
Sun: :)
Stars: *fly by forever*
Carin: “I SAW RUPERT!”

After some time, a cast member found our little nook of the world – Chris Rankin! Saw him in 2004, now I got his siggy in my copy of Order, and a pic where he looks angry. :D Conversation ( = thank yous) and eye contact: Aye!

Phew. A siggy in me book. Trip definitely not wasted.

Later I spotted Alfie Enoch posing for the press, actually I did not know his name at the time… but soon heard the crowd scream it, and he too came to our corner and signed thingies! For my book he used some other fan’s pen, 2 seconds later he was 1 pen short and asked me “Can I borrow this?”, eye-contacting... via my camera display! Doh! I happily consented to the pen-loan. And got some photos. Carin has not quit squeeing over his dimples since. :B

Yay. Two siggies in me book. Up to 2005 level.

The wild mob then spotted Natalia Tena smoking outside the Odeon entrance. Carin screamed for “TONKS!” for a while and SHE came over!
Fan: ”Can I have your ciggy?”
Natalia: “No...”
Yoze: “Natalia! Natalia! TONKS! Er… hehehe! Natalia, please!” *click click click*
Natalia: “What’s your name?”
Yoze: “SORRY?”
Natalia aka 1st Ever Potter Star To Ask For Yoze’s Name And Thus Surprising Her To Deafness: “What’s your name?”
Yoze: “Josefine. :D”
I did not bother to discuss the unusual spelling and she spelled it -ph- of course. :)

Wee. 3 siggies in me book. Best result since 2004.

I think my Natalia photo was today’s fave because in it, she looks like some random smoking (well...) glamourous French celebrated film star of the 50’s so when I first saw the photo I screamed about making it black and white but that did not look any good when I tried it in Photoshop so I didn’t bother to wrestle with the contrast and oh, did I just use “smoking” and “glamourous” in the same sentence for publication in my uncensored blog which concerns a subject popular with 13-year-olds? Someone might start smoking because I wrote that. Well, children, I did read that rationality is generally developed in one’s late teens (if ever), so I suppose it would be unfair of me to burden you with the responsibility of working this out on your own: SMOKING IS BAD... for you, at leassssssst.

We saw other stars of course – some on the ramp/stage/stairs separating the street from the park, some posing for the press, some signing for the people in the GOOD SPOTS, some passing into the cinema. OMG lyke some examples:
~Dan
~Emma W
~Maggie Smith (I’d never seen her before AFAIK!)
~Brendan Gleeson
~Jamie Waylett
~Evanna Lynch, according to Carin at least :B
~David Tennant
~Bonnie Wright
~Robbie Coltrane (who arrived late but still signed for the people near us!)
~Helena Bonham Carter (Carin yelled for her and she kind of looked at us from afar, tilting her head and looking a bit saaaaaaaad...?! Hehe!)
~JO! My first view of Jo! I went “JOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooOOOOOOO!” Carin: “She must have heard THAT...”

We missed you:
~Alan! :O
~Jason! :O
~Emma T? :O
~Ralph? :O
~Gary-O :O

1 devastated Thewlisian, 1 satisfied celeb collector and 20998 other people sauntered off Leicester Square. After 13 h I still wasn’t in dire need of a ladies’ room (I just hadn’t quenched my thirst since the previous thirst-ay), but saw the point of taking my chance before we had to walk to the airport or summat. I also had some chips. And we examined the Odeon’s arse. It didn’t look, uh, glamourous, and we asked a nearby lady if she knew whether the stars would exit there or from the front. The front, she thought, and told us where to stand, then discussed Equus with me for a bit. *hogwartsgirly blush*

I had never waited for exiting stars before, but now we did, for a last Thewlis chance. The southern part of the square was pretty good. The desperate Thewlisian was in the front row conversing with Potheads, the satisfied hunter wallowing in siggies and photos took the 2nd row and chewed on asocially through The Half-Blood Prince. (Er... That didn’t sound right…!)

Some stars I remember seeing this time, through all my tunnel vision:
~Maggie Smith
~Shefali Chowdhury
~James Phelps
~Oliver Phelps
~Richard Griffiths
~Emma W
~Dan
~Tom Felton
~Warwick Davis
~Rupert
~Matthew Lewis
~Natalia Tena, who happily stuck her tongue out and waved at Carin or WHOMEVAH!
~JOOOOOOOooooooooOOOOOOOOooooooooOOOOOO!
~DAVID THEWLIS AT LAST?! Carin said so. I called out his name. :D He stepped into a car and Carin was no longer such a devastated Thewlisian. :D

I took her for a quick look at Trafalgar Square in the dusk, and then we tamed the delayed tube. Well, some line was delayed... due to a... “passenger action”! Wonder what THAT means... We made it un-mutilated to Liverpool Street where we had just missed the second last bus, so we had some smoothie & fruit salad. :9 2 h later, Camp Stansted was set up. Carin slept in our faithful leopard blanket. It was now a dirty dirty thing as we had sat and stood on it all day. :D I slept quite well using my old winter coat and an inflatable pillow. Good to know... Like 3 h, good for an airport nap. :9

JULY 8: Carin was long gone to Stockholm, which has been granted every other gala premiere in history. But this time... THE TURN HAD COME TO LITTLE GOTHENBURG! I had known for a few weeks that... KATIE LEUNG AND MATTHEW LEWIS WOULD ATTEND! I saw them up close at London premieres, but was still without their siggies and it would be cool to see them again and maybe ask them to pose, so of course I was going to hang around. :B

What was not good about happening to leave my Ravenclaw scarf at home:
1. It was cold as hell.
2. Katie’s character is in friggin Ravenclaw.
But I am still among the living, for I remembered the camera. It all went down like this: I arrived around 12.30pm, what luxury, and stood around waiting for perhaps 4 h. Notes were taped to the doors: The cinema would close to the vulgar mortals at half past 3. Later I heard that the stars would arrive at 7...

The barrier, about as long as the width of 40 fans, was only ever half full. Wow. I guess this premiere REALLY wasn’t marketed. Sweet. I had read a wee note in the paper about it… and alerted people on 2-3 online forums. Oh, I do hope this was the mere first syrup-dipped Fragaria vesca in a long string of Gothenburg gala premieres... Is it cuz we got a new cinema?

I was the last fan along the barrier before the stars entered the cinema. Camera ready. Order almost as ready. Nice photos was my priority, but I would keep the book open in case someone had time to sign...

Every Swedish celeb who ever lived filed into the cinema. Except dead ones. A bad day to be prosopagnostic. Etc. I stopped believing the procession would end. Ever. Then the Potter kids were a bit late and I thought that the guards might just rush them past us to save time. :/ ‘Tis lucky that whatever I try to predict about people is incorrect. They arrived and began to work on the handful of fans! :D Katie went first and when she reached me I asked if I could take a picture, “Sure”, at the first attempt her hand was in her face, stroking back hair. Hehe, I had actually IMAGINED that. Second photo turned out nice! Then she signed my book, during which time I asked if she was cold. “A bit”, I believe she replied... *wraps*

Close behind Katie was Matthew. Some guard next to him grabbed what seemed to be every fan’s camera and took photos of Matt posing with the owners. :) The guy made for my camera as well, awww, but I declined since I wanted to photograph Matt myself. :B When he was finished with the previous fan, I waved the camera around a little and he posed for a lovely shot... :) Then he kindly gave me my 14th Potter cast siggy! :D

Pre-meeting: “Uhhhhhhhh, were these 7 wasted hours?” *teethclatter*
Post-meeting: “Weeeeeeeeeee! 7 hours well spent... Wouldn’t have wanted to risk missing THAT…”

Harry Potter & summer jobs

There is finally time to read proper books without feeling the homework's hot breath down my neck. So I recently licked up Order of the Phoenix, to freshen it up before the movie, and to get into the story before I reread Half-blood Prince, so that I can be in the right mood when Deathly Hallows arrives... :D And -
a) I kind of wish they wouldn't release movie 5 and book 7 so close together. Joy, like sunflower spread, is at least as good when... well, spread out. :p
b) Order is not my fave HP book, but now I can't wait for the feckin film. Feck. Bits I look forward to the most:
-Snape
-Puppy-Snape
-Lucius
-Lupin
-Thestrals :D
-Umbridge
-The trio
-Luna
-The kiss

*sleeps till then*

~*~

I still have no summer job. LOSER!!! Interviews done:
-Er, restaurant. ("We'll keep your application.")
-Another, er, restaurant of the same chain. ("I just wanted to make it clear that you did not get selected.")
-Big grocery shop ("I haven't got a job for you at the moment but I'd like to keep your application.")
-Wee grocery shop ("We found so many ex-employees. Yes, some other time, maybe.")
-Book shop *whimper* ("We chose this guy... But then there is autumn and Xmas, I'm saving your application here.")
-Universeum (Great flashy attractive science centre with whose chief of staff my dad is acquainted - I want any job there but this was about a guide job! The mere interview invitation feels flashy. :) *frames printed e-mail* "I don't believe you would complete the group at this time, but you are welcome to try again." I now have license to nag at them 2008-2047.)

Interviews spoken of but yet to be conducted/booked:
-Paper girl!
-Standing around town, handing out free morning papers (Sounds cosy enough, but too easy to be flashy)

If I don't get a proper job, the alternatives are:
-I hope I can do some voluntary work 120 km up north, except I'm not sure there would be anywhere affordable to stay. But it's possible. And flashy.
-Sell CD's crammed with photos from equestrian events. I might earn like 20 SEK.
-Intensify my shooting of showjumpers and the advertising about it.
-Dog-walking.
-[CENSORED] (Nuthin criminal.)

The laaaaa' and the Oscars!

The environmental law course kinda sucked. I wasn't Aspie enough to remember the whole law book, like. Didn't have to, but it still would have helped to know all the things one could look for in any given case. :p Whatever, I passed the exam! :D

Funniest environmental law moment.

Teacher: "Blah blah blah... Sure we could have an ecological dictatorship. But who wants to live in such a society?!"
Class: :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) ...
Teacher: "Yeah... You, maybe."
Bloke: "Miss! Miss! Er, actually, several prominent scientists said -"
Teacher: "No, boy! No matter how good your intentions are, power always takes over!"
Yozemind: *flashback to LOTR*

-----------------------------------------

Sacha's got an Oscar nomination! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! So, since I have once again found someone to root for on Oscar night, I will give you my great perfect list of all the nominees plus comments on my faves, which are usually picked for unprofessional and irrelevant reasons. :9

Best Actor
Leonardo DiCaprio, Blood Diamond
Ryan Gosling, Half Nelson
Peter O'Toole, Venus
Will Smith, The Pursuit of Happiness
Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland

I kind of only know about Will and Leo, and I mostly know Leo from Titanic where he grins too much. :p Hehe.

Best Supporting Actor
Alan Arkin, Little Miss Sunshine
Jackie Earle Haley, Little Children
Djimon Hounsou, Blood Diamond
Eddie Murphy, Dreamgirls
Mark Wahlberg, The Departed

I have seen all of the above in 0-1 roles, but Djimon Hounsou was in my dahling Gladiator!

Best Actress
Penelope Cruz, Volver
Judi Dench, Notes on a Scandal
Helen Mirren, The Queen
Meryl Streep, The Devil Wears Prada
Kate Winslet, Little Children

Kate is probably my 2nd fave actress!

Best Supporting Actress
Adriana Barazza, Babel
Cate Blanchett, Notes on a Scandal
Abigal Breslin, Little Miss Sunshine
Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls
Rinko Kikuchi, Babel

Tough choice since Cate rocks, and Abigail may have more future Oscar chances (Has Cate won any?) but she was so cool in Signs, and Little Miss Sunshine sounds like a better movie than Notes on a scandal! Which... I know nothing about... but.

Best Picture
Babel
The Departed
Letters From Iwo Jima
Little Miss Sunshine
The Queen

With one Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine's Abigal Breslin it's only fair that The queen gets an Oscar too, because I'm equally eager to see those two movies.

Best Director
Alejando Inaritu, Babel
Martin Scorsese, The Departed
Clint Eastwood, Letters From Iwo Jima
Stephen Frears, The Queen
Paul Greengrass, United 93

I have seen only United 93, which I thought had great direction! Oh, and the villain soothed my eyes as usual! :B

Best Foreign Film
After the Wedding, Denmark
Days of Glory, Algeria
The Lives of Others, Germany
Pan's Labyrinth, Mexico
Water, Canada

I haven't seen any of the above. Well, Denmark is almost Sweden, and there is a Swede, Rolf Lassgård, in After the wedding! *desperate* (Sweden almost made it though, with a film called Farväl Falkenberg.)

Best Animated Film of the Year
Cars
Happy Feet
Monster House

I have seen neither, but the charming Elijah Wood is in Happy feet, eh? :)

Achievement in Art Direction
Dreamgirls
The Good Shepherd
Pan's Labyrinth
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest
The Prestige

Again I have seen none of these movies, but Johnny was artfully decorated in Pirates 1.

Achievement in Cinematography
The Black Dahlia
Children of Men
The Illusionist
Pan's Labyrinth
The Prestige

Children of men is the only one I've seeeeeeeeen... Yeah, visually nice. (But Clive Owen's voice is nice as hell. :) The human population decrease was the nicest thing, till...)

Achievement in Costume Design
Curse of the Golden Flowers
The Devil Wears Prada
Dreamgirls
Marie Antoinette
The Queen

Uh, well, that is the REAL costume movie, innit? Though I know not when Curse of the golden flowers is set.

Best Documentary
Deliver Us from Evil
An Inconvenient Truth
Iraq in Fragments
Jesus Camp
My Country, My Country

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! XD

Best Documentary Short
The Blood of Yingzhou District
Recycled Life
Rehearsing A Dream
Two Hands

I know all about them! NOT! But hey, recycling is the shit! :)

Achievement in Film Editing
Babel
Blood Diamond
Children of Men
The Departed
United 93

I have no expertise knowledge about editing, but how about United 93. I heard it was filmed in really long takes and it sounded hard to edit. :p They didn't have the hot villain in every shot, however. :/

Achievement in Makeup
Apocalypto
Click
Pan's Labyrinth

Hmm, two options. Pan's labyrinth sounds more intriguing. But then, I only know their titles. :B

Best Original Score
Babel
The Good German
Notes On A Scandal
Pan's Labyrinth
The Queen

God, I've seen neither. I'll go and check who made the scores. *back* I don't know any of them. So, The queen then since it's the one I most want to... see.

Best Original Song
"I Need to Wake Up" An Inconvenient Truth
"Listen" Dreamgirls
"Love You I Do" - Dreamgirls
"Our Town" Cars
"Patience" Dreamgirls

Indeed.

Best Animated Short
The Danish Poet
Lifted
The Little Matchgirl
Maestro
No Time For Nuts

Another mention of the almost Swedish country.

Best Live Action Short
Binta and the Great Idea
One Too Many
Helmer & Son
The Saviour
West Bank Story

Sounds like a bit of fun. *steals name of binta for name collection*

Achievement in Sound Editing
Apocalypto
Blood Diamond
Flags of Our Fathers
Letters from Iwo Jima
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest

Out of these, I would pick Pirates for a movie night...

Achievement in Sound Mixing
Apocalypto
Blood Diamond
Dreamgirls
Flags of Our Fathers
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest

Again Pirates would be my pick, for a night of profound sound-mixing euphoria.

Best Visual Effects
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest
Poseidon
Superman Returns

Superman, for I saw a few stills from it and am still wondering whether the guy was CGI. :p Heehee, is that a compliment on the effects people?

Best Adapted Screenplay
Borat
Children of Men
The Departed
Little Children
Notes on a Scandal

ONLY ONE CATEGORY?! XC

Best Original Screenplay
Babel
Letters From Iwo Jima
Little Miss Sunshine
Pan's Labyrinth
The Queen

Sunshine sounded good... Hmm, it's probably the only TRAILER I've seen out of these, but.

--------------------------------------------------

Now... They're airing the Oscars on some new weird channel which I didn't think we could watch. At least I got an invitation from DA CINEMA CLUB to watch the Oscars in real time at the fancy cinema! 1 hour before takeoff it turned out that we WERE able to watch the channel. PHEW! :O I am now staying at home and happily deev-ing all the little sound mixing and animated short film categories, which evil Normal Channel surely will have emitted from their little summary next week. I SUPPOSE they will at least show The Sacha Category so I haven't been crying.

I'm off! Sacha's gonna WIN!!! :D
