Ratexla's 6 Nine Inch Nails lists

Updated at appropriate times.

The Nine Inch Nails songs I listen to the most...

From Pretty hate machine:
+Head like a hole (The first I heard of it was a wee piece, but I thought I'd like it!)
+Down in it
+Sanctified (Church vibes... leading to The-Great-Hall-from-Harry-Potter vibes... come sit by the fire, Severus.)
+Something I can never have (If I can ever be arsed to make an Alan Rickman Soundtrack version 2.0, this is so going onto it. A song for Severus.)

From Broken:
+Last (*punches the dry mud*)
+Happiness in slavery (The way I let my amusing obsessions enslave me?)
+Physical (Track #98. Yes.)

From The downward spiral:
+Closer (...)
+Big man with a gun (Mostly for lyrics. No, I now really like the whole thing.)
+A warm place
+The downward spiral (Mostly for lyrics. Solutions...)
+Hurt (Beautiful, esp the whispered parts... and others... and, on a side note, the kingfisher in the video, I almost went Christian from all the symbolism in those 3 s. :O )

From The fragile:
+Somewhat damaged
+The wretched
+We're in this together (Must... never... drive... while listening... to... this song... argh - )
+Even deeper
+The great below (One of my deathbed songs. And lullabies, in the meantime.)
+Into the void (But the best part is the video. Ewww, humans...)
+Where is everybody?
+Please
+Starfuckers, Inc.
+I'm looking forward to joining you, finally

From Still:
+Something I can never have (Combines the Desperate Voice and the 21st Century Voice... (see below.)
+The becoming (Def better than the original, whose background screams gives me visions of fleshy pale humans piled up in hell. Think I got it from some medieval painting in some history book. And that is not the music video of my choice. As it happens.)
+The day the world went away (A still blue shiny ocean on a July morning, it beats the original, and I could make a list of all the pwetty things in that video... Here are some of them for now: warm saturated colours, feather, flowers, fine sand, Trent, little black grains, black snake, yellow crystal.)
+And all that could have been
+Leaving hope

From With teeth:
+All the love in the world
+The hand that feeds (The intro subtly comes pounding up from some rebel basement, then the new badass Political!Trent jumps out at you!)
+Love is not enough
+Only (My first Nine Inch Nails song, at least the refrain stuck... 2 years later I remembered the song as "pretty good & sexy"! It turned out I had remembered it partly wrong, but whattehell!)
+Getting smaller
+Beside you in time (The pounding is half the torture! Nah. I started to like this after I saw the trailer for the Beside you in time DVD, which I suppose I will get some time. Lovely elegant magical animalistic sweaty dreamy LIVE NINE INCH NAILS TRAILER. :D )
+Right where it belongs (Good all the way, but when his voice suddenly becomes un-distorted and the crowd cheers... *bristle*)

From Year zero:
+Hyperpower! (The sound of a certain invaded concert? My death of choice. If their aim is true, at least.)
+The beginning of the end (And almost the beginning of the lovely lovely Year zero. I remember when I first put it on...)
+Survivalism (My buddy the Nine Inch Nails-sceptic likes this! :B )
+Me, I'm not (I didn't think much of it at first, but heard it in a new... light in the background of a Trent interview.)
+Capital G (Mostly for lyrics. TrentRez4Prez.)
+The warning (Mostly for lyrics. THE PRESENCE FOR PRESIDENT! *hands the presence a piece of organic hemp cloth*)
+Another version of the truth (Nice lullaby. I just like to listen to and envision each beat. Hypnosis? :9 The first part sounds tense, perhaps building up to... to a nuke explosion! Which of course fucks up the microphone placed next to it, so only a soft noise fades into the second part, my fave. Its... temperature varies. Like the warm air rising now and then from a bus radiator. The warmth is spindly, but at least your frozen fingers cheer (the finger-cheering way) each time it hits them.) But anyway - what would the title have to to with my initial mental video? Anotherversionofthetruth.com shows a peaceful field with some worrying text. If you scrape the picture with your cursor it reveals one of a degraded industrial wasteland. Because... the cute dream came true for a time, and for a chosen few, but since it is presently carried out in an unsustainable manner, the ruined scene beneath is just as true, for others, or will be for all, if not enough is done to prevent it. Both pictures are "brought to you by the US Bureau of Morality". They can create the fleeting dream and the resulting nightmare.)
+In this twilight (Love at first hearing. Our last day.)
+Zero-sum (Love at first hearing. The last song in the history of human civilisation. And there is whispering...)

From Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D:
+The great destroyer remixed by Modwheelmood (Faceslap to me: I, the remix-hater, tossed the CD in the player, listened with interest to the first track because at least that was Saul and one of my fave original tracks - then The great destroyer came on and I found myself grinning fool-happily during the first listen... Oh, a remix that doesn't go BLIP BLIP BLIP and requires dancing. Slow and kind of acoustic. Sadder! I'm not crazy about the original, though I like the lyrics (well, what I imagine they're about... which may be several things...) - now it's perfect. Nearly - where did "the limitless potential" go?)
+Another version of the truth remixed by Kronos & Enrique Gonzalez Müller (I find this as enjoyable as the original version. Squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak, the sound of Godzilla - or some more normal animal - thirsting to death on the Scorched Earth, squeak-squeak-squeak, a bit of a collapse. That second post-apocalyptic part sounds quite HAPPY and could almost pass for a Jane Austen movie soundtrack. If the Austen movie in question were to feature some ivy-covered factory chimneys in the background, aye.)
+In this twilight remixed by Fennesz (Also just as lovely as the original, but this too sounds... happier and (even?) more hopeful. Whaz that swishing overhead - nuclear missiles, mayhap? Siiiiiiinging in the missile rain... You know, that is very interesting, because I heard that most species are much more radiation tolerant than humans. :B Anyway. The final note fades out almost forever, like a supernova sending Trentdust all over the universe, where eventually it may nourish another biosphere. SNIFFLE.)

From Ghosts I-IV:
+3 Ghosts I (Perfect I.)
+12 Ghosts II (Illegal elephant products and rainforest wood Some fearless piano and a ghostly whisp of noise lived ran together in perfect harmony, like a little velvetty grey Arabian horse suddenly being joined by a rockin' Friesian on its morning sand jog. Yes, I did recently watch The young black stallion clips on Youtube. Cuz I never heard of that movie getting released. :p )
+13 Ghosts II (Ever since, after about 2 whole listens, I had it pointed out to me by Meathead and some fangirl that it contains BREATHING. A breathing ghost. *crankup*)
+14 Ghosts II (Perfect II. It reminds me a little of the scene in Gladiator where the cam spins around Team Maximus et Juba in Zucchabar, for they are caught in an upward (or should that be downward?) spiral (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) of success, fame, insanity, adrenaline, arse-sand and groupie-counts! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Then there is that euphoric, drunkedly dancing, howling guitar on TOP of the perfection!)
+20 Ghosts III (Random guitar comes floating into the soundscape. Like a ghost. Or a Dementor.)
+24 Ghosts III (I agree with Meathead. 80's car chase.)
+32 Ghosts IV (The first perfect Ghost to haunt my fave list. Flustering! Kind of porny! However, Meathead's sharing his vision of another 80's car chase cooled me off a little. Fuck.)

Miscellaneous:
+Suck (Some drum 'n' bass version of this Pigface cover.)
+Burn (From the Natural born killers soundtrack. I remember like 1 fragment of that movie... but I like it already. Again. *weep* Fuck. *dab* I tend to listen to this, among others, after, er, heated discussions about -)
+Dead souls (Joy Division cover from the soundtrack of The crow. I have it on CD, but this live version from the Reading Festival in 2007 is even... even...)
+Past the mission (With Tori Amos. *slrrrrp* Orange chocolate. Can I get the multitracks though plzthnx, I can barely hear Trent. Still, my heart vibrates with the frequency of his voice. Btw, I've now checked out 3 Tori albums and my mum likes her too.)
+Falling (Quake track without official title.)
+(Intro) Whisper (Outro) (Quake track without official title.)
+Pulse (Quake track without official title.)
+First born (Quake track without official title.)
+Driver down (From the Lost highway soundtrack. Hmm, on my unofficial compilation CD it's called Drive her down, which is implied to be a reference to...)
+Metal (Gary Numan cover. Love at first hearing due to much sexiness.)
+Deep (From the Tomb raider soundtrack. I don't claim to like it only because everyone hates it.)
+Non-entity
+Flyentology (With El-P. Ahhh! The Desperate Voice... but not enough of it...)
+Break (With Saul Williams. There's some Trent voice in it somewhere...)
+WTF! (With Saul Williams.)

-------------------------------------

My mum's favourite Nine Inch Nails songs... Why yes, I enjoy making lists.

+Terrible lie
+And all that could have been
+Leaving hope
+Only ("This one's good too! A few songs are difficult but other than that they're pretty good! One gets used to it! You have INDOCTRINATED me! I let it get under my skin... I let you pump it through my - veinssssahhhhhhhhh...")
+Right where it belongs
+Zero-sum

-------------------------------------

Works to which Year zero gives me more or less intense flashbacks...

Books:
+Collapse by Jared Diamond (He, however, claims we are NOT doomed from the start. *looks from jared to trent as if at some tennis game* Then I found this title among the Year zero banned media and died of happiness. But not of surprise... Btw: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is also among the banned media. That killed me again. TRENT - ?! :D Oh, wonderful banned media... in general. *extends must-read list* And - the Year zero sites are visible to us because the Solutions Backwards Initiative group sent them back through time? :) Hence the distorted look of them? Ahhhhhhhhh.)
+On the beach by Nevil Shute (Soy milkshake, check. Zero-sum, check. Cyanide pill, check. Euthanised pets, check. The sand is cooling.)
+Lady Chatterley's lover by D.H. Lawrence (I haven't got any English edition in my possession, but something the lover says about... what calms him...)
+The stand by Stephen King (Bloody repopulation. Anyway, I heard that fragments of it are visible on one of the Year zero sites...! Hmm, can't find it on the Banned media page... No matter.)

Films:
+Children of men ('Twas the chimneys. Bloody repopulation again.)
+E.T. (Environmentalist from space, kind of like the Presence. If the latter is an alien.)
+Soldier (Post-apocalyptic society on a garbage planet. I believe it is called kitchen sink realism.)
+The wild blue yonder (I could just go ahead and officially proclaim its ending my favouritest ever ever.)
+Terminator 1 (Love. And dogs. Love.)
+Terminator 2 (This film is so perfect that I haven't even got the DVD. I mentioned the Terminator movies in the review I had to write for On the beach.)
+Terminator 3

---------------------------

Supposedly Year zero-related books I have not read...

+Oh, PROOOOOOOOBABLY 1984, by George Orwell
+They thought they were free by Milton Mayer (Trent mentioned it in a certain interview, could be useful reading...)
+Swan song by Robert McCammon (Recommended in a Nine Inch Nails blog comment. "It's about life after nuclear war, but it's like Stephen King meets....I don't know. Weird stuff, and not like real life, but interesting just the same.")
+Left behind: A novel of the Earth's last days by Tim F. LaHaye (Recommended in a Nine Inch Nails blog comment... "...basically the Book of Revelation set to fictional characters, all that YZ encompasses is right there."
+The road by Cormac McCarthy (Recommended in a Nine Inch Nails blog comment! :O "...a post-apocalyptic story about a father and son crossing America after a nuclear war.")

I want to eat you, books.

---------------------------

Some shit to love about Trent/Nine Inch Nails...

Random:
+His ad against fur
+My x favourite songs
+His Artistic Integrity... even while he was still on a record label
+The Presence
+His dogs
+The Year zero-related artwork
+His treatment of fans on a small scale (judging by what Everybody reports)
+His treatment of fans on a large scale
+The Ghosts video contest which resulted in many a violent clash between battling, camera-slinging fans film festival... Yeah, I AM gonna get my filming off the ground. Soon.
+His new method of music distribution
+The range between emotions and between eras expressed in the songs (Range also happens to be one of the things I appreciate most in... actors... In this case, I love trying and failing to believe that it's the same bloke performing March of the pigs and Another version of the truth, or blooper-giggling on MTV. Or it could all just be my a) people-prejudices b) prosopagnosia. He seems so sincere, and (as someone pointed out) does not appear to be slaving under some stereotypical image of himself but will curse and giggle as he pleases. :9 Aye, it's fun to shock people.)
+His unwillingness to discuss lyrics (Me and poetry... :p I was getting a bit nervous about interpreting things the wrong way because doing so will cause hairy palms and lightning strikes... when I could guess at any meaning at all, that is. After I had heard him say what he said, the lyrics entered a less solid state and trickled into every corner of the unit known as Yoze, working as a key that would more often than before find a fit. Thanks for your blessing, dahling. :B )
+His ability to get off drugs
+His ability to get off record labels
+His sense of humour
+His blog
+His cursing

Vocals:
+His whispering voice
+His singing voice
+His 21st century voice
+His desperate voice
+His speaking voice (Bloody 'ell. I hereby declare that Trent has my favourite voice of all non-Brits. "...fucked us", "Charles, that is", "...while you're hiding in the trees", "...that you're the reason..." *lobotomises self with ice pick in order to block all other distracting sensory perceptions*)

Year zero sites:
+The Mailstrom with keys
+Grace the Teacher
+The Hour of Arrival
+Operation Swamp 0000
+The popup message from Consolidated Mail Systems
+The Situational Anxiety Disorder Quiz
+The Price of Treason
+Hollywood in Memoriam
+The Viability index

Yoze is visually oriented a shallow bitch:
+His eyes
+His 2005 hair
+His height
+His ~2000 eyeliner
+His nose
+His 1994 hair
+His name
+His eyebrows

Oh, to have been there for the release of...

...Pretty hate machine back in 1989!
The first Nine Inch Nails album! My age of 6 at the time should not have hindered me, ffs, seeing how my taste for rock was founded no later than 1990 or so (when I got my first real record and attended my first concert - double-thank you, Gianna Nannini). I wonder if I heard any Nine Inch Nails hit on the radio in 1989? What if I had noticed it, and liked it, and - and - uh...

...The downward spiral back in 1994!
The most famous Nine Inch Nails album, I suppose. The breakthrough? So I wouldn't have been able to say "I was among the first 4 people to discover Nine Inch Nails" - something I still cannot say, ACTUALLY. I also would have been subjected to 1 cancelled Swedish concert and 1 decade of waiting for Nine Inch Nails to return here, but at least I would have had the live experience by now. (TIMES 2 OR SUMMAT!) And the ability to brag about my decade of fan-suffering. (Speaking of suffering, think I had my first suicidal thoughts in 1994. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. On the other hand, my English sucked. Harder.)

...The fragile back in 1999!
The most anticipated album of the 90's? The one that would Save Rock? :)

...With teeth back in 2005!
Trent survived, Trent got clean and Trent made another album. That would kind of have been cause for celebration. As would said album's rockiness.

...Year zero back in the thickening fogs of April 2007!
My favourite Nine Inch Nails album and its wicked, mysterious, confusing surrounding art project!

...Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D back in - oh dear!
The record shop said they expected to get it on November 28, 2007. I stomped in there around noon and they had not unpacked it yet. Mrrrrr. Shouldn't someone have grown tired of tossing and turning, unlocked the shop around 3am and unpacked a few CD:s before opening time? :p They need me.

...Ghosts I-IV back on March 2, 2008!
Only ~19 years late, wee I shall knowingly witness the release of a completely new Nine Inch Nails album. According to the stats, it will contain something fucking marvellous. Actually I still missed this release by 4 hours. BLADDY 'ELL! It happened just like this:
December!Trent: *posts cosy mysterious studio photos at nin.com*
Trent on February 7: "We have been very busy doing secret things. We’ll start to tell you about them soon."
Trent on February 16: "2 weeks"
Ratexla: *freerides on others' calculations that this means march 1*
March 1: *arrives quietly*
Ratexla: "Dare I go to the sci-fi con today? In case NIN.com gets updated? Btw, no, fuck the sci-fi con, I'll go tomorrow... but now I got all geared up to go, so I'll just check out the record shop for a bit."
Trent on March 1: "Soon..."
Ratexla: *returns home to find above post*
Ratexla: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Ratexla: *recalls meathead's recurring definition of trent's definition of "soon"*
Ratexla: "Just in case something really will happen on March 1, I'll spend half the night in front of NIN.com, commenting and reloading. Because I cannot wait to see what will happen, and I don't want to look like a shitty fan with a fucking life."
NIN.com: "Soon..."
NIN.com: "Soon..."
NIN.com: "Soon..."
Ratexla: "It's the perfect time for me to distribute those 150 Animal Rights Sweden pamphlets tonight though. Trent would understand. [Tough shit if he wouldn't.]"
NIN.com: "Soon..."
NIN.com: "Soon..."
Fellow blog commentator: "If he really posted that from Hong Kong, he's probably asleep right now."
Ratexla: "Good point. I will sleep until it's morning in Hong Kong. Or even a few hours more, so I can stay up tomorrow morning... and reload."
Ratexla: "SNORE."
Ratexla's paper gnome phone: *BEEP*
NIN.com: "Soon..."
Ratexla: *gets around the paper district abnormally quickly*
NIN.com: "Soon..."
March 2: *is*
Ratexla: "Hey, I'm going to the sci-fi con... If you're gonna be surfing anyway, could you check NIN.com every now and then and call me if it's updated?"
Folks: "WTF?! YOU ARE TAKING THIS TOO FAR!"
Ratexla: *stalks sci-fi stars (but first, makes another shocking discovery)*
NIN.com: "Soon..."
NIN.com: "Soon..."
Ratexla: "Yawn. Well, it's no longer March 1 anywhere, not in Hong Kong, not in LA... So... whatever will happen may happen at any time during the next few weeks now, eh? Sweet, I can go to bed."
Ratexla: "SNORE."
Trent: "Tick tock... Tick tock..."
Ratexla: "SNORE."
Trent: "2 hours"
Ratexla: "SNORE." :)
Ratexla: *dreams about tori amos and trent, fyi*
Ratexla: *cruelly kicks computer into action*
Trent: "Ghosts I-IV - The new Nine Inch Nails record is available RIGHT NOW."
Ratexla: *blink*

...ah, fuck it! Option 30's album, of which I hear there are 1000 copies!
I'm looking, I'm looking... :)

Evaluation of 2007

List stolen from Carin (who stole it from Ida).

1. What day in 2007 will you always remember?
August 7, when I read the interview that led me to Nine Inch Nails, and got offered my first (and possibly last) job related to my education.
2. Did you keep any of your new year's resolutions?
I don't make them. When I don't procrastinate (which I do 99% of the fucking time) I prefer to Waste No Time. :) I mean... I prefer to waste no time even when I do procrastinate. It just doesn't occur. :p
3. Did any of your friends become a parent this year?
Sarah, on July 25.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
I noticed no such event, though it probably happened to a few bed mites.
5. What countries did you visit?
UK and Norway.
6. Is there anything missing from 2007 that you want in 2008?
A real job = something one can potentially do for 40 h/week (and where I'm not just a sub either). Oh, and the end of oppression, plus the rise of a massive, SUFFICIENT environmental movement. FO REAL!
7. Did you do something this year that you've never done before?
I got a (2-day) job that had something to do with my education.
8. What was your greatest achievement in 2007?
Well... I secured meself a master's thesis project for the spring of 2008... *shriek*
9. Biggest mistake?
Some more crushing of Tellus with my sweaty filthy oversized ecological footprint? Hopefully the foot was at least shrinking. And somewhat compensated for. Fuck.
10. Have you been ill or injured?
Nothing incapacitating except cramps... The fucking bitch...
11. Best buy?
The CD Year zero by Nine Inch Nails.
12. On what did you spend the most money?
Hopefully on conservation, but possibly on CD:s... *checks data* Largest one-time expense: iPod, used.
13. Did anything make you really happy?
My folks decided rather suddenly to quit eating chickens, pigs and eggs. For a moment there, I stopped laughing at certain people who have got Faith In Humanity............................. but nothing has come of it yet. My mum later said she's thinking of becoming a vegetarian (I suspect she means pescatorian) but she/they are still working on those WALLS! The folks seemed to be thinking about animal industry videos, so I guess I'll have to show them some more. Except, you know, they scream and run and hide behind their walls.
14. What songs will always remind you of 2007?
Probably most of what Nine Inch Nails did 1989-2007, FOR SOME REASON. :D
15. Were you happier or sadder this year compared to previous years?
I don't know. Hey Jared, who's winning the ecological race? At least I got to be high on crush drug and EXERCISE!
16. What do you wish you had done more?
Spread animal rights propaganda (BOO!), saved the environment, studied, read, gone to concerts, shot racehorses after all.
17. What do you wish you hade done less?
Destroyed the environment, accidentally stepped on snails in the night, eaten stuff due to boredom, surfed due to boredom, slightly but stupidly fucked up at work.
18. How did you spend Xmas?
I eventually decided to go to auntie's place with the others, mostly in order to see people's pressie reactions, sprinkle some weirdness, explain that The inevitable rise and liberation of NiggyTardust! that I gave away was not actually stolen despite being home-burned, and get an extra hour of cycling. I left early and listened to my new Manson CD.
19. Did you fall in love this year?
Crush, affection. :)
20. Fave show on TV?
Hmmm... Planet Earth? :D Interesting and pwetty! Hopefully it woke some latent environmentalism everywhere. Actually I only caught a few eps, but am considering getting the DVD.
21. Best book you read this year?
Fact: Collapse: How societies choose to fail or succeed by Jared Diamond. 8O Fiction: Harry Potter and the deathly hallows by JK Rowling. XD
22. Greatest musical discovery?
*gag* NINE INCH NAILS!
23. What did you do on your b-day in 2007?
I received and listened to With teeth by Nine Inch Nails. Fucking Aunt Flo arrived unexpectedly early but did not beat me up too bad. I also played around with the Terrible But Great GIS at school and hated it. Then I had a McBean *slrrrp* and saw This is England with my mum. &c.
24. Is there anything that would have improved your year?
See point 6. Moreover, if I had read a certain Trent interview in the local paper on July 30... I MIGHT have checked out Year zero and become a fan in time... to get my arse to the Stockholm gig on August 7!? :O "Just a little reminder of all the what abouts and all the might have, could have beens..."
25. How would you describe your style in 2007?
Um. Well-worn and black.
26. The best new people you met?
*mutter* Peeeeeeople? :S Well, I met RealLife!Carin and some Harry Potter actors, and then I started commenting on the Nine Inch Nails blog and met some nice people there.
27. Disappointment of the year?
Our collective ecological footprint is still too big and the moral circles of some are still too wee. Concerning my personal little life, I would not yet say "the continued absence of a Real Job to keep up my sleeve for post-graduation" because the job I did get led me to Nine Inch Nails which was nice and possibly important and I may still get a Real Job. :B

Materialistic Xmas result

-WWF membership*... My first, actually! :O
-Black eco-cotton shirt that says "mother earth" which reminds me of Nine Inch Nails' lyrics "our mother nature is a whore" and I like to scribble the first verse of Survivalism in margins and on napkins at random times. I didn't ask for that shirt, but oh well, let's spread some awareness then. SOME. (:B
-Pinkish knitted mittens that my mum... got... from her workplace for free. They will make cosy paper gnome mittens when my faux leather gloves get too worn or out of season. Like, now.
-Nine Inch Nails CD called Ultra rare trax.* It certainly doesn't look like an official release. It looks like it was made lovingly by a semi-professional fan - no label... Hottish pics of Trent sporting the Sirius Black look... Little track descriptions on the cover... In any case it contains 11 trax (Trent is so cool that he wouldn't NEED to use that hip spelling, hehe) which I mostly wouldn't know how to get otherwise as some were previously unreleased. Indeed... Since I might not really have been reminded of their existence and tried to download them. Love.
-$$!!!
-Wall calendar from The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation* featuring photos from the Baltic Sea, which is literally in deep shit. I didn't have a planning-friendly wall calendar in 2007 and that sucked.
-Black eco-long johns to keep me snug and warm until all the ocean floor methane is burped up and grills the Earth.
-USB memory stick - 4 Gb, retractable. My old stick was 128 Mb, now I'm selling it. The bids are up to 16 SEK at the mo! 8O
-2 bars of Lush soap to protect us all from evil. But I later traded Lush soap with another family member, and got a kind called... OMG... SNOWCAKE! XD It smells like marzipan. Hope my sensitive nose can handle it.
-The golden age of grotesque by Marilyn Manson*
-Wee horse wall calendar that Carin sent me! Squee! Most of the photos feature foals, some of which are FUZZY. *diez* *thud* Most are also taken by Bob Langrish, who is not generally my fave horse photographer (GABRIELE BOISELLE IS! XD ), but *slurp chew sigh* this is a very well-working collection. It shall hang in my room and help me remember what to do in my life. (The ocean calendar will hang in the kitchen and daily bombard all passers-by (handful) with environmental tips.) The horses: Headshot of a cute little brown horse which looks like a dollish Arabian or maybe their sugary cartoon-verse equi(!)valent Welsh pony. Chestnut mare and her chestnut foal. Fuzzy paint foal, trotting. Chestnut foal pretendig to be a bigass dressage pro. :B Another chestnut mare and chestnut foal. Headshot of an alert chestnut. Wavy-maned leopard mare with her nearly white foal. FUZZY CHESTNUT FOAL OMG!!! Gallopping Friesian! Headshot of chestnut foal, gilded by light from setting sun. Paint Shettie and paint foal. Fuzzy grulla.
-5 pairs of eco-socks, some with cute animals on them, one pair made of HEMP! Hemp, I hear, is the shit. 4 times stronger than cotton but only 5% as thirsty. It is resistant to pests... and reportedly the Swedish anti-drug lobby has gone into overdrive and illegalised the growing of hemp here, even though the variety used in clothing cannot be made into drugs. Meh! LOOK, HYSTERICAL ANTI-DRUG LOBBY! I'M WEARING HEMP!
-Ticket for a Bruce Springsteen gig* in Gothenburg on July 5, 2008! 2 x 57000 tix sold out quicker than ever. I haven't heard much of Bruce, but what I've heard isn't bad, so I better take my chance, and gigs are always fun.
-2 pairs of eco-knickers
-Fixed by Nine Inch Nails* - remixes of the songs from Broken. Fixed has become freely available at the remix site since I bought the CD...! I have not yet formed an opinion on the remixes. Maybe I should just sell it on to some true packaging whore and pay Trent properly for all my 2nd hand Nine Inch Nails albums when (?) the next album is released online and no evil record label eats most of the money. :)
-Earthenware lasagne vessel thingy, kind of Gladiatoresque...

*Known pre-Xmas!

18000 papers + 5 photo sites - 1 bro

I recently called the paper boss, whom I had never met (aye, I have had 3 jobs but only one I got after an actual INTERVIEW and that may never happen again, eh), just to hear when I could pick up the equipment. She then offered me about 30 extra work days because the regular guy is ill and not likely to return before his vacation! So I'm gonna work June 11 to August 12... One of me two training nights was last night. In several of the streets, the order of the house numbers seems abnormal/illogical and of course there are loads of people who believe in psychic paper girls so they do not bother to mark their house or mailbox. Or indeed dig the box out from inside their 4 m thick hedge.

Each year there is a little MARK YER GAWDDAMN MAILBOX FOR THE PAPER SUB'S SAKE!!! campaign in the... paper.

WELL, at least this year no petrol will be wasted while I run around looking for unmarked, invisible mailboxes. Indeed, cryptic boxes (at least in a walking district) may be environmentally beneficient: I fail to find the subscriber - the paper is delivered by someone knowledgeable later in the day to a 50x higher cost (that requires some petrol, I grant you) - paper price rises - subscriber unsubscribes (due to this or because they are pissed about the late papers) - forest is spared. :D Do not give me the shite about how much "forest" there is in Sweden, btw. :p

Useful shit to come out of my ~60 paper girlin days 2007:
~Savings + interest, which can for a time keep me under a roof when I get fired from my, uh, future real job, so that I can take regular showers, look presentable and thus stand a chance of getting a new job that one can't get while looking like a bum
~Rain forest
~Othello...?
~...and some greenhouse gas-offsetting
~An extra external hard drive - the comp is full so I can't keep 2 copies of every file, with 2 external drives I can do backup and send one hard drive to live across town, in case our house gets bombed or summat

********************************************

A story of all my fiery relationships... with photo sharing sites.

2001: Webshots. My first... photo sharing service. After a few years, free accounts became very small. So... maybe I created multiple accounts. AHEM. Went on to cry into my pillow. Not.

2004: Fotango. I had seen a few pix online marked Fotango, so I checked them out and made use of their service. I remember but little, however, a feeling of ugliness lingers. I do not much care for the look of a site if the usage is smooth. This was not.

2004: Ofoto, later turned Kodak Gallery. Oh, what a wonderful site, comparatively. Unlimited space! The pix were shrunken to 448 pixels at the most, but that was all right, that's about the size of a normal paper photo after all. It was tricky to find the url that would allow anyone to actually see a public album without having to log in, and every time I forgot how to do it, I sent Ofoto pissed e-mails. I always found the correct way 4 s later. Eventually I learned. And the gallery decided that one had to buy pix at least once a year not to get thrown out. Reasonable... while one lives. But if Homo sapiens has to exist until 2063, it would at least be neat if my pix might stay online until the apocalypse.

2006: Yahoo Photos. We were perfect together. *cries in beach sunset* :/ Unlimited space, for free, neat, smooth, easy. Until, after less than a year of wild passion, they announced that they would close down in the autumn of 2007. I wasn't planning to seek out another photo site after the death of Yahoo Photos, as it was too time-consuming to browse for all the pix in each category (they are sorted by date) and neating up titles, captions and dates in the online albums... all the fucking time.

2007: Winkflash. A short fling with a sad ending. It had unlimited free space, they even kindly pointed out that one would not be forced to buy prints. It was impossible to rearrange the pix or link to individual ones. But at least anyone could view the public albums. I thought. That is kind of a common trait among PUBLIC ALBUMS. Until I discovered that a coupla people could not, so I e-mailed Winkflash about this bug. Which it wasn't. "Your guests only need to complete a simple registration process." Yeah, people LOVE that and will wet themselves over you and JOIN JOIN JOIN rather than surf on. I told them I would have to look for another photo site and slammed the door, believing myself to have given up. :p

2007: Webshots. By chance I found that the Webshots policy had been altered. "Uh, why does it say that this account can swallow 5800 pix, did it not use to be 3000 summat?" Now, one starts at 1000 pix but is given space for an additional 100 for every month of membership! I can live with that! :D I have gone back to Webshots. I waste no time typing every title and such, just make sure the files are already properly named on the hard drive... And as it happens, I've also made a list to help me find every photo from each category in the comp. So all I've got to do in the future is upload shit. Quickly. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. I also used to think the new design of Webshots was weird, but it's mostly just smooth. :9 I hope they "never" die or change their rules. :D

My bro is moving out. YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAH!!! To the ghetto, which is lush. It's famously impossible to find flats in Gothenburg, and he said he had applied for 100s, but apparently it still only took 3 weeks and no one else seemed interested in this one. I hope it won't take me 50 years. :C I can settle for anything... with 1 bedroom, the right rent, near good public transport, hopefully not behind the puke-stinkin refinery... My bro got all this, on the very edge of town, near a beloved creek. The moment I get a permanent job after school I will be all over every suitable wee flat on The Great Almighty Flat Site... :p

The laaaaa' and the Oscars!

The environmental law course kinda sucked. I wasn't Aspie enough to remember the whole law book, like. Didn't have to, but it still would have helped to know all the things one could look for in any given case. :p Whatever, I passed the exam! :D

Funniest environmental law moment.

Teacher: "Blah blah blah... Sure we could have an ecological dictatorship. But who wants to live in such a society?!"
Class: :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) ...
Teacher: "Yeah... You, maybe."
Bloke: "Miss! Miss! Er, actually, several prominent scientists said -"
Teacher: "No, boy! No matter how good your intentions are, power always takes over!"
Yozemind: *flashback to LOTR*

-----------------------------------------

Sacha's got an Oscar nomination! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! So, since I have once again found someone to root for on Oscar night, I will give you my great perfect list of all the nominees plus comments on my faves, which are usually picked for unprofessional and irrelevant reasons. :9

Best Actor
Leonardo DiCaprio, Blood Diamond
Ryan Gosling, Half Nelson
Peter O'Toole, Venus
Will Smith, The Pursuit of Happiness
Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland

I kind of only know about Will and Leo, and I mostly know Leo from Titanic where he grins too much. :p Hehe.

Best Supporting Actor
Alan Arkin, Little Miss Sunshine
Jackie Earle Haley, Little Children
Djimon Hounsou, Blood Diamond
Eddie Murphy, Dreamgirls
Mark Wahlberg, The Departed

I have seen all of the above in 0-1 roles, but Djimon Hounsou was in my dahling Gladiator!

Best Actress
Penelope Cruz, Volver
Judi Dench, Notes on a Scandal
Helen Mirren, The Queen
Meryl Streep, The Devil Wears Prada
Kate Winslet, Little Children

Kate is probably my 2nd fave actress!

Best Supporting Actress
Adriana Barazza, Babel
Cate Blanchett, Notes on a Scandal
Abigal Breslin, Little Miss Sunshine
Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls
Rinko Kikuchi, Babel

Tough choice since Cate rocks, and Abigail may have more future Oscar chances (Has Cate won any?) but she was so cool in Signs, and Little Miss Sunshine sounds like a better movie than Notes on a scandal! Which... I know nothing about... but.

Best Picture
Babel
The Departed
Letters From Iwo Jima
Little Miss Sunshine
The Queen

With one Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine's Abigal Breslin it's only fair that The queen gets an Oscar too, because I'm equally eager to see those two movies.

Best Director
Alejando Inaritu, Babel
Martin Scorsese, The Departed
Clint Eastwood, Letters From Iwo Jima
Stephen Frears, The Queen
Paul Greengrass, United 93

I have seen only United 93, which I thought had great direction! Oh, and the villain soothed my eyes as usual! :B

Best Foreign Film
After the Wedding, Denmark
Days of Glory, Algeria
The Lives of Others, Germany
Pan's Labyrinth, Mexico
Water, Canada

I haven't seen any of the above. Well, Denmark is almost Sweden, and there is a Swede, Rolf Lassgård, in After the wedding! *desperate* (Sweden almost made it though, with a film called Farväl Falkenberg.)

Best Animated Film of the Year
Cars
Happy Feet
Monster House

I have seen neither, but the charming Elijah Wood is in Happy feet, eh? :)

Achievement in Art Direction
Dreamgirls
The Good Shepherd
Pan's Labyrinth
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest
The Prestige

Again I have seen none of these movies, but Johnny was artfully decorated in Pirates 1.

Achievement in Cinematography
The Black Dahlia
Children of Men
The Illusionist
Pan's Labyrinth
The Prestige

Children of men is the only one I've seeeeeeeeen... Yeah, visually nice. (But Clive Owen's voice is nice as hell. :) The human population decrease was the nicest thing, till...)

Achievement in Costume Design
Curse of the Golden Flowers
The Devil Wears Prada
Dreamgirls
Marie Antoinette
The Queen

Uh, well, that is the REAL costume movie, innit? Though I know not when Curse of the golden flowers is set.

Best Documentary
Deliver Us from Evil
An Inconvenient Truth
Iraq in Fragments
Jesus Camp
My Country, My Country

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! XD

Best Documentary Short
The Blood of Yingzhou District
Recycled Life
Rehearsing A Dream
Two Hands

I know all about them! NOT! But hey, recycling is the shit! :)

Achievement in Film Editing
Babel
Blood Diamond
Children of Men
The Departed
United 93

I have no expertise knowledge about editing, but how about United 93. I heard it was filmed in really long takes and it sounded hard to edit. :p They didn't have the hot villain in every shot, however. :/

Achievement in Makeup
Apocalypto
Click
Pan's Labyrinth

Hmm, two options. Pan's labyrinth sounds more intriguing. But then, I only know their titles. :B

Best Original Score
Babel
The Good German
Notes On A Scandal
Pan's Labyrinth
The Queen

God, I've seen neither. I'll go and check who made the scores. *back* I don't know any of them. So, The queen then since it's the one I most want to... see.

Best Original Song
"I Need to Wake Up" An Inconvenient Truth
"Listen" Dreamgirls
"Love You I Do" - Dreamgirls
"Our Town" Cars
"Patience" Dreamgirls

Indeed.

Best Animated Short
The Danish Poet
Lifted
The Little Matchgirl
Maestro
No Time For Nuts

Another mention of the almost Swedish country.

Best Live Action Short
Binta and the Great Idea
One Too Many
Helmer & Son
The Saviour
West Bank Story

Sounds like a bit of fun. *steals name of binta for name collection*

Achievement in Sound Editing
Apocalypto
Blood Diamond
Flags of Our Fathers
Letters from Iwo Jima
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest

Out of these, I would pick Pirates for a movie night...

Achievement in Sound Mixing
Apocalypto
Blood Diamond
Dreamgirls
Flags of Our Fathers
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest

Again Pirates would be my pick, for a night of profound sound-mixing euphoria.

Best Visual Effects
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest
Poseidon
Superman Returns

Superman, for I saw a few stills from it and am still wondering whether the guy was CGI. :p Heehee, is that a compliment on the effects people?

Best Adapted Screenplay
Borat
Children of Men
The Departed
Little Children
Notes on a Scandal

ONLY ONE CATEGORY?! XC

Best Original Screenplay
Babel
Letters From Iwo Jima
Little Miss Sunshine
Pan's Labyrinth
The Queen

Sunshine sounded good... Hmm, it's probably the only TRAILER I've seen out of these, but.

--------------------------------------------------

Now... They're airing the Oscars on some new weird channel which I didn't think we could watch. At least I got an invitation from DA CINEMA CLUB to watch the Oscars in real time at the fancy cinema! 1 hour before takeoff it turned out that we WERE able to watch the channel. PHEW! :O I am now staying at home and happily deev-ing all the little sound mixing and animated short film categories, which evil Normal Channel surely will have emitted from their little summary next week. I SUPPOSE they will at least show The Sacha Category so I haven't been crying.

I'm off! Sacha's gonna WIN!!! :D

I survived Xmas...

...with MY (extended) family. :p I had been dreading it. But keeping away for most of the time worked now, at least.

For the record, this was my first Xmas as an official heathen! :B Since November 23 I belong to no religion! :D I think... For this I get a piece of paper, almost no church tax, and 1 ticket to hell. :q

Here was me original wish list:
-TNC:s Rainforest Fund thingies
-Terrapasses
-...and a few CD:s...

Here is how it actually turned out *MATERIALISTIC XMAS PRESSIE REPORT* :
-Black eco-cotton top (so soft and thick...)
-Booze chocolate (good if one bites a hole in em and pours out the booze)
-Electric toothbrush (I hope my toothpaste isn't too abrasive)
-A friggin huge steel lantern (which I ain't keeping)
-Cash!
-2 decorative birds + 2 decorative trolls (used)
-Some Aloe gel (which I never knew I needed and which contained mysterious ingredients so I passed it on...)
-Soap from Lush
-Shampoo thing from Lush
-A Robbie biography (written by some Swedish tabloid journalist but reasonably respectful *sucks juice*)
-A backpack (my 4-year-old one was perfect, but it has got a hole in the bottom. Hmm. Huh huh huh huh.)
-A wall calendar (featuring JOAQUIN!)
-The da Vinci code soundtrack by Hans Zimmer
-Sparkle in the rain by Simple Minds
-Boy by U2
-A red mini-lantern...
-Some candle (I'm off candles... I hear they contain palm oil... That's just not cosy)
-Knickers made of poisonous cotton (which I'm not keeping either)

This law course is death.

VG, hypoxia & 1 Deep British Voice

BRAGGING OD: Got our latest exam results the day before yesterday. First off, we were informed that everybody had survived. The teacher did not know whether to blame our brilliance or his kindness. But you know what they say about Swedish education. Or not.

Well, tawp grayde VG was set at 85% (while it is normally 80%, I think it was because they had had to remove one question afterwards or summat...) and I scored 86.84%! YES! SQUEE! Not expected, as this was a rather abstract and talky exam with a lot of "Discuss, dammit, discuss!" in it. :p Think this VG has been my life goal since I made a miserable little G on a similar course in 2005. :) MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It was extraordinarily sweet to receive 3/3 points for my answer to a Q about "pros and cons of political conservation targets, are such targets appropriate and why, and did we propose other or complementary strategies?" And my answer was split into wee bombshell fragments all over the paper, too. Poor teacher. :B Here be my fatarse, 100% answer, outta the book via me brain, uglily (...) translated, de-messed, with teacher's stapled comments and supposedly approving underlinings in Slytherin green:

Good: -Perhaps the politicians are more likely to stick to decisions which they and not a hippy biologist have made.
-The targets may seem high, which makes the world realise the importance of protection, as even the powerful people set such targets --> everybody takes conservation more seriously and try to contribute to it.
-If people realise that the targets are too low this too can encourage widespread and general conservation?

-It is better than nothing. The populations may survive until the surroundings possibly become more eco-friendly, and then some can spread from the protected areas, which hopefully would not have become too depleted.
Bad: -The targets rarely ARE high (enough)! One hears 5% of a forest or 12% globally, but for many species extinction begins at ~30% of original population/habitat size, and cannot be stopped thereafter. I believe somebody suggested that 70% of the Earth be protected, and a study showed that the targets of scientists and experts are often set about 3 times as high as those of politicians. This may be because the political targets are often compromises and are held back by for example short term economic interests, although they might have been higher to begin with.
-The public may believe that the low targets are sufficient, so that conservation outside of protected area ceases.
-They say nothing of what is to be protected. ["could be said"] The politicians might mainly set aside land which is unprofitable to use, but it may have low natural values. A writer of one article pointed out the importance of protecting primarily hotspots (threatened and rare), that is, concentrating the protection to rain forests and the like.

Measures?: -Education ["good"] about ecology, so that also decision makers, voters, etc want high targets.
-The aforementioned concentration on hotspots. (50% of species on 2% of the land surface = rain forests?)
-Somebody said that areas should be protected based on how productive they are!
-General respect for natural values EVERYWHERE.

To propose 95% protection so that decision makers only could push it down to 50% would perhaps be an illegal scientific lie and falsification of results... unless one included the conflicting interests and the compromise into one's calculations?! ["!"]

A "few"
Homo sapiens less could reduce the problem fundamentally. (The way there might include education --> liberation (of women), + education about ecology, that is, even in the lower grades --> creates necessary motivation... hopefully. However, I don't have the Nobel Prize for social studies/psychology.) There wouldn't be enough people to make an impact on X% of the Earth. Less bickering and agonising over decisions.

excuse the messiness!

["3 good (despite the messiness :) )"]

Yesterday was historical! I... I finally heard Sacha speak as himself. :D

*deep... british... male... voice... number 234248*

My comp speakers are dead, which hasn't been a huge problem until, oh, I got meself a fave actor/comedian/warrior/man who was SUCH a chameleon that in my 6 years of knowing about his existence I had never heard his real accent/voice, which, however, were bound to be fab, and, against all better judgment, I tempted myself by staring at silent talk show videos! YEAH!

*spank*

Sneaked onto dad's comp last night. It loaded Youtube-Letterman :D so damn quickly that I actually had time to hear Sacha say wannabe gangster before the comp was reclaimed by its rightful owner. :9

Speaking of our wannabe gangster - why TV hasn't shown the Ali G movie lately, to feed off the Borat hype, is beyond me. (Which does not say much.)

Crude whippin/carrotting of our great big arses

There are 1,8 hectares of biologically productive land per person. The average human uses 2,2 hectares. 20% of the people are sitting on 80% of the resources.

Fun eh!

Large eco-feet = wealth = independence = opportunity to TELL ONE'S 0.5 GRAMS OF WHINING DNA TO GO JUMP IN THE LAKE!

Generally... right?

I don't fecking know how to get down to 1,8 hectares, really. But it might work comfily. www.earthday.org/footprint offers some guidance with their quizzz. Here is how I can HOPE I will be able to respond to each question for the better part of my life, + my comments.
-------------------------------------------
How big is the city, town, or place where you live?
-100,001 - 1,000,000
(Above 500 000, I believe.)

What city has the most similar weather to yours?
-Gothenburg
(This does require some heating. But I think I'm on nuke power right now. Thank gawd, that may sustain us until we are down to the recommended 100 million (HAAHAAAAAAA, I originally happened to write "100 000", ehehe, sniffle...) people and can get along on renewable energy. (Maybe we already can, but I hear different things.) I also heard that Homo sapiens is unusally bad at coping with radiation, but that in general, nature looks great around... Tjernobyl. :O Hmm. Mmm. Heh... Hope it's true.)

Food footprint
How often do you eat animal based products? (beef, pork, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy products)
-Never (vegan)
(This is already true! :D And tasty. *feeds you* According to a survey, most Swedes are ready to cut down on the meat for the sake of the environment. Hey, once they break the habit a little bit, and discover a few 1000 adjusted recepies, there's no telling where they'll end up. :D )

How much of the food that you eat is processed, packaged and imported?
-Very little. Most of the food I eat is unprocessed, unpackaged and locally grown.
(I think this means less than 25%. Hardly true at present. NativeEnergy may sustain us until we are down to the... bla bla.)

Goods footprint
Compared to people in your neighborhood, how much waste do you generate?
-Much less
(Er... I'm not so sure about this one either. But I recycle, I don't CONSTANTLY buy new clothes/electronics, and when I move out no maniacs will stop some compost thingy from moving in.)

Shelter footprint
How many people live in your household?
-1 person
(I dunno what's better. But I'm the queen loner, after all. I'll try that if I can afford it.)

What is the size of your home?
-20 square metres or smaller
(This is not the size of our house...! But HELL YEAH, I can do that! When I move I hope there will be such a tiny, cosy, adorable, cheap place available for my great wasteful arse. IT BETTER!!! *moves to shanty town*)

Which housing type best describes your home?
-Green-design residence
(Like an eco-village? I'd LIKE that. :p Never seen one in my life. Did a wee bit of research last week. What if there was one reasonably close to an eco-bean farmer and a city bus line... and with small apartments... Anyway, that along with the other answers apparently would leave me with a footprint of... 1,3 HECTARES!)
-Multi-story apartment building
(This is where I will probably end up, but I might still have a footprint of precisely... THE MAGICAL 1,8 HECTARES!)

Do you have electricity in your home?
-Yes, with energy conservation and efficiency
(Hmm, can solar panels produce electricity or just heat? :B Sniff... I don't have solar panels. Today.)

Mobility footprint
On average, how far do you travel on public transportation each week (bus, train, subway or ferry) ?
-1-25 km
(No idea about this either... But supposing it's not physically impossible to build THAT ECO-VILLAGE close to town... One could take the bike in summer, too... And since I won't FIND any eco-villages, and the apartment building would work, the answer is reasonable. I need to take after my gran, who uses her bike like hell. Right now I live 5000000 km, OK, 10 bus minutes, from the city. And the air is lethal.)

On average, how far do you go by motorbike each week (as a driver or passenger)?
-0 km
(I've gone 20 m on a motorbike in me life, and Joaquin never picks me up on his. :O )

On average, how far do you go by car each week (as a driver or passenger)?
-0 km
(IRL I REALLY need to drive... as good as never. :D If I ever buy a car, fecking shoot me. Unless I join a big car pool, or get one because my FANCY JOB REQUIRES it. If I then use it in unnecessary = non-professional situations, SHOOT ME! Expensive buggers they are, too.)

Do you bicycle, walk, or use animal power to get around?
-Most of the time
(Some exercise wouldn't kill me... It depends on how far that perfect eco-village/cosy apartment would be from town, though.)

Approximately how many hours do you spend flying each year?
-Never fly
(I mean... because... NativeEnergy... can sustain us until... the planes can run on bio-fuel or the BOAT AND TRAIN ARE RE-INVENTED! WHY THE FECK IS THERE NO BOAT BETWEEN GOTHENBURG AND ANYWHERE NEAR LONDON?! I'm talking technical possibilities here. Actually, I'm thinking about trying to take the train/bus instead of plane to France next year, at least one way. :D What an adventure. Not to mention... er... New Zealand. DAMN CHEAP FLIGHTS! I can't wait for 1000 kmph vacuum tunnel hover trains to be developed. My classmate mentioned 'em.)
--------------------------------------------
OMFG IT COULD WORK! According to the test... and me... EVERYBODY could be comfy. Comfier if there were fewer people.

WTF! Just read The future of life by Edward O. Wilson. He says it all better than I do. I can lend ya this motivating book.

The quizmakers write:
"...some options that could make your Footprint smaller are not available to you as a result of choices on the part of local decision makers, such as reliable and efficient public transportation as an alternative to driving. Therefore, an important path to reducing your Footprint is to advocate for more sustainable decisions at all levels of government."
Indeed! :p *cheers on SNF*

~*~

Here be me holy pledge. Which is probably not enough, so... Beat me, to show me how. Beat me, you fat Westerners. And enlighten me. If I break my pledge, feed me to your 14 children.

~I will estimate my yearly greenhouse gas emissions and try to offset them.

~I will never fly domestic in Sweden (it's been a while, anyway...)

~I will support TNC's Rainforest Fund or the like at least until I can assume they've received enough to save an area as large as my ecological arse-print (a handful of hectares at the mo, probably)... asap. And UNICEF if possible.

~I will constantly be a member of an environmental organisation

~I will not buy my own fossil-fueled car for non-professional purposes

~I will buy organic and/or locally produced food & clothes (plus 2nd hand clothes) as often as reasonably possible (that means, unless they cost 100 000 000, taste/look exactly like poo or do not exist)

~I will not take my mobile phone, TV, VCR, camera or computer to the scrap heap until they die of natural causes... Sell them, mayhap. (It would not surprise me if everybody already does this :p but at least my folks are fond of throwing away functioning objects. :p ) I hope they get recycled efficiently from the scrap heap.

~I will not leave the TV or comp in stand-by mode (DVD and VCR switch themselves off... or do they?!)

~I will recycle

~I will not subscribe to the morning paper (My folks do and I am addicted now, but when I move I will quit and read it online, or read the free city papers before giving those back to... society. When I was da paper-girl, I beheld ~365 morning papers... every day)

~I will use low-energy lamp bulbs (at least in my room, for now...)

~I will cook loads and rarely rather than a little every day

~I will never eat meat, eggs or milk (unless, you know, I crash in the Andes or something...! :)

~I will always vote environmental

~I will produce no offspring

~I will bequeath (sp) all that I own to charity (HAHA, WON'T BE MUCH! THERE WON'T BE MUCH LEFT TO SAVE EITHER! XC )

Continuation of our McDeath saga

Weeell weeell weeell. The fill-in form, which did not freeze uni's Explorer, REQUIRED an American home addy.

Ya know, YOU AFFECT NOT ONLY THE US!!!

Anyway, American McD does not accept ideas from outsiders. Hmm, do I really qualify as one...? :p How convenient for them. And if I presented my pwetty idea as an insider, they could just MAKE me an outsider in the flick of a boot. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I shall e-mail Swedish McD instead. They can have only 9 000 000 naggers on their arses, and IIRC, they tell idea-squirts that they'll think it over. Mhm. Must only translate my damn nice e-mail first.

McDeath don't want to be contacted concerning the environment

It could simply be my comp... But I just attempted to send American McD a damn nice email containing a MASSIVE ENVIRONMENTAL TIP. *COUGH* Only saying how the production of 1 unit of processed animal protein demands 6-20 times more fossil fuel that the production same amount of processed plant protein, so maybe they should go easy on the... A link that looks like it conceals the right McD email addy leads to an "OOOOOOOOPS THIS PAGE DOES NOT EXIST WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT!!!", and their fill-in form freezes Explorer.

OMFG, that is beautifully prejudice-confirming.

If the shite works for you, I'll ask you to send my message for me plzthanx. I shall try at school... one day...

Gothenburg Film Festival 2006! PARTY!

The wild blue yonder was very good! For such an... artsy film. :D It had been hyped and/so the cinema was packed! They loved Brad! I loved Brad, gasp!

Artsy or not... The ending was so beautiful! *SNIFFLE* The best part. My kind of ending. :) My dream. In Simpsons Bully Voice: "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAA!"

*wakes up*

SPOILER:

I just hope those 3-5 astronauts succumbed to inbreeding/the jungle/the precipice before they managed to start... um, the 7th mass extinction. :/

END OF SPOILER

Before the film started I had time to enter the festival tent... (That sounds... orgy-ish.) It's a party tent and they throw in various Winter Hosts - artists that show their bestest favourite film clips ever, apparently. (And that makes me - A WINTER GUEST! OMG! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA. HA.) Tonight they had brought in Amanda Ooms. Alan co-worker for my celeb collection. :9 *click* *scutter*

Fluffy green leftovers

Sorry I have not blogged for two months...! Ehehehe. At first I did not feel I had the time and then I was too tense about the upcoming exam and then I did not want to get sucked into cyberspace for eternity. Originally I had 600 topics piled up, I have now forgotten half of them and cannot be arsed to treat many of the rest. So they will not even join the digital disaster.

OK, I got some good Alan shite for Xmas:

  • Rasputin on DVD! OMG! I had been looking for it for two years... Nice movie! :B Ohhhhhhhh, Alan, I'm in heaven and it's hotter than HELL!
  • The Essential Shakespeare Live. 11 minutes of Alan in As you like it... exactly 20 years ago, minus 3 days! *nostalgic* Not that I saw the play. X'C

Two conversations out of my class, which, as usual, sounded much better IRL - December 2005, conservation seminar flying free as a passenger pigeon (also preferable IRL, but extinct):

E: We must teach the kids to recycle, step by tiny step!
B: We have to INFILTRATE them!
E: That's why we should all become Kindergarten teachers...
M: Rilly, I wasn't going to have kids in this shite world, but then my friend said *I* should have them and not just some moron! *I* should spread my environmentalist habits!
T: Wow, your friend has a good grasp of evolutionary theory.
M: The weird thing is, he's like this total HUMANIST!
Z: OMG!
E: We could adopt kids to pass on our habits.
M: Adopt the morons' kids.
E: Is there an age limit? Cuz if not, you can adopt the morons.
Class: *starts talking about crazy swede who adopted 40-yo indian*
--------------------------------------------
M: I can buy up carbon dioxide emission quotas? Where?! :D
Z: *COUGH* http://www.snf.se/ *COUGH*
M: And THEN, 40 years from now, when their value has gone WAY up, and I'm on my deathbed and childless, I can sell them for much more! 'Course... I won't be able to do anything with my profit... Yes! I can buy heroin for it all! Btw, seriously, if I ever get cancer I'll start doing heroin, it's supposed to be SOOOOOOOOOOOOO sweet! Though it would be tough if the cancer turned out to be some benign kinda skin cancer that could just be SCRAPED OFF!!! ROTF!!!

Note: Sadly, there will be little 2045 heroin for this bloke. I purchased an emission quota and they last only two years. :/ That is still nice I guess. (I gave it to my dad for Xmas, MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!)

But the idea of deathbed heroin is nice! I had heard it before. I was kind of going to... Mmmm, heroin... (Or Nick/Alan/Joaquin/Brad could just pop in...) But that was of course before I realised I wanted to burn all my leftover $$ on rainforest and stuff! Here's what I will do - I shall steal a kid's heroin. Saving the kid, saving more rainforest, enjoying my deathbed. Weeeee, win-win-win.

Unless, of course, the deforestation continues at the present rate, in which case it will all be gone in, what, 40 years??? and I will have to find out the second best alternative. SIGH, I HOPE GOOGLE WILL KNOW IT!!! Heck, anyway, it could happen way before then, if the forests collapse at certain critical sizes. X'C

I am reading the inspiring-depressing-nerve-wracking The future of life by Edward O. Wilson at the mo. OH MY GAAAAAAAAAWD!!! READ IT!!!

*represses a few dark misanthropic forbidden thoughts which might get me thrown off blogger and that would be a drag would it not*

Not counting all the nerdy, subjective ethical reasons, saving this shite would be easy *COUGH*reasoneducationcondomsveggiesandstuff*COUGH*, necessary and profitable for us, anyway. The question is... WILL THEY FIND OUT IN TIME?!

Goddamn, I'm angry, as my platitude-squirting bro would say. Having feelings sure sucks.

I'm a bad environmentalist too. According to my own ethics or whatever, I should kill myself, but... here I am... waiting for... um... Harry Potter 7! Yup! I will try to buy up my own eco-footprint in the meantime! :p At least! Cheaper for vegs. And third-worlders. On average.
Speaking of death, today I almost had a heart attack because...

GAG...

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...

PANT PANT PANT...

GASP...

Elijah Wood is going to be at the scifi con in March!
Now...

  • Elijah is not my favourite actor of all time
  • Brad is my favourite LOTR actor
  • Sean Astin cancelled last minute last year, so I'm not getting any silly hopes up
  • 50 000 000 people will camp outside the con because of Elijah
  • I will lose studying time
  • I will lose money
  • I will lose my dignity
  • I will lose my dignity again as I move on to the next celeb
  • I will perhaps lose my dignity a third time
  • I'm a Pothead, you know
Sure Elijah is among my favourites, and I was quite sweet on him 4 years ago, but half the heart attack was, I'd say, from surprise! :D I would not have thought OUR little con would get such a GIANT so SOON! I think I saw him on the guest list of Collectormania in the UK and said to my buddy "Look, at least Elijah visits cons, and in Europe too, what if he comes to Sweden" but I didn't believe he would! YAY!!!
Oh, and Gawd, if he cancels, replace him with NICK or BRAD plzthanx.

The Gothenburg Film Festival starts today. I haven't gone there since 2001, but now I'm seeing one Brad movie (The Wild Blue Yonder), one Thewlis movie (All the invisible children) and one horse movie (Zaïna, rider of the Atlas). :) THE Joaquin movie was sold out. Oh, it will run in such a nice cinema... :p Well, I was just trying to decide whether I should see an Elijah movie too, I guess I will now... Research and all, ya know... damdidamdidam... It looks funny and the festival tix are kinda cheap and what if I can never find it later in life...

FUNNY, I forgot to mention the exam. "He is evil" echoed through the corridors the next day. The exams have not yet been returned. I suppose they are working their way through mine - a mess of gut feeling and stress. Rhyme. They must either be in therapy or trying not to die from laughter. X'C

I've also quit da horseriding for the time being. Pretty good place, but I am sated at present, fecking climate, OMG other people, walking is exercise too, and the money could be better spent. Hehe... I used to mentally convert all money into DVD's, now it's London and... its opposite. :B

Two years of a fuller life!

On October 30, 2003 I caught myself thinking a lot about that ALAN guy. :D

ONE WEEK TO GO AND THEN - the Alan-less Goblet of Fire London premiere. And Jason isn't in the UK. And David isn't in the film. And Emma Thompson wasn't at the last premiere. And... And... And I still suspect school will stupidly try to keep me in Sweden. It's 99% paranoia though. Anyway, I think I COULD tell a funeral tale rather than waste 10 weeks (course) and 1000 SEK (London). IT HAS TO WORK OUT!!! XC I'll know by Thursday... +P

Tomorrow I will turn in the last two crap papers of this past course. Extremely interesting course - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA - and at least I've learned SOMETHING and am now whipped by more panic than before, I think, woohoo, but my grade will SUCK! 6 papers and no exams. It's been nearly impossible to fail, but since I've never seen a whole or drawn a conclusion in my LIFE I won't get star grades either.

There are 3 levels here:
U = Failure
G = OK
VG = Can I Have My Picture Taken With You?

Teacher: "Oh, you can work together with someone on this first paper... AS LONG AS I DON'T SEE YOU DO IT! GROWL!"
Classmate, later: "YAY! Got a VG- for Paper 1, I'd never have made it if I hadn't worked together with someone! :D"
Teacher, talking to someone nearby: "If you scored a G+ here and do great on the other papers, I'll start thinking about giving you a total grade of VG."
Lone Ranger Yoze biting her G: "@£$€#¤%&@£$%!!!"

Not that I expected to do great on any papers, but in any case - who will want to hire One Of Them Rangers with a G in conservation biology?! :p The most effective thing to do might be suicide asap, so I can give all my earthly posessions to conservation projects. :B

Kidding... I suppose... Until I see the grade of my next course, which also seems very relevant to my future, that is... SNIFF. XC I'M GONNA FECKING GO FOR A HIGHER GRADE THERE!!! DAMMIT!!! WHIP ME HARDER!!! OOOOOH YEAH!!!

Moreover, they say a similar course will come up a few years from now. WHIP!!!

BUT! I can settle for something less than American minister for the environment. :D *canned laughter* (Hmm, wonder if they have such a minister???) Any dirty old conservation work would feel more or less meaningful. (Just gimme $$ for tea, planes, hot water, broadband and other basic necessities. +P Dude, maybe I should be under a bridge.) I see myself building fences. In certain pretty places. Hehehehehehehe. Hehehe. Or getting shot by poachers and left to die slowly for 5 days. Or (if lousy Rangers don't get shot) guarding an area against some evil company's bulldozers. (Ahem ahem. Wonder if anyone would give you tea money for that.) Or writing panicky things on milk packets. For example "Quit drinking this goddamn milk, [insert methane emission stats here], HAAAAAHA!"

Then again, they say vv few biologists find work in their field. If that problem persists (which a lot of people say it won't, and just for the sake of the planet I hope they are right, and they also say the world's been waiting for them omnipotent Rangers) I can always deny that my future position behind the register at McMurder (THAT WILL BE MURDER! GAWD I'M FUNNY!) had anything to do with my grades. :p

Siiiiiiiiiiigh.

One week of the extremely interesting course was spent 130 km away, in that luxurious hotel again. (Where I did NOT stay with THE GUY this time!!! We were 4 lasses in one room instead. Huh, huh, huh. Nah. Oh, and I already shared that vision of olive oil and pink pillows with someone.) We sat around sippin tea and discussing the big questions, such as "WTF are we gonna say to convince Bush once he lets us into his cosy office???" I don't know why we couldn't do that at school. (The discussions, I mean...!) Maybe they didn't want our everyday lives to distract us, someone suggested. :9 *licks vegan gourmet food which i hope was rilly vegan all the time, ahem* It was quite pleasant, we watched photos and docus at night, and the paper I wrote there got a higher grade than the previous one. G+/VG-. *whip* Which, then, officially doesn't mean sh*t.

Finger that mouse every day!

Make ClickAndSave your starting page and click on SOMETHING every day! DO IT!!! DO IT!!! DO IT!!! DO IT!!! CLICK!!!

And my new e-mail addy is ratexla_kettleburn83@planet-save.com :B *re-reads* Ah... Finally my luv for Nick & Alan will be nakedly obvious to anyone who wants to communicate with me, while 5 square feet of rainforest are saved by each e-mail I send! 8O GET YOUR OWN PLANET-SAVE ADDY, PWETTY PLEASE WITH SAP ON TOP! :x

With luck, the sites are true AND the laws protecting the saved pieces have TEETH.

OK, I've been growing sick of myself again and figured I could sweep up the great(est) number of species with each click if I found a, ahem, well-known and trustworthy rainforest charity. That old treehugger is blooming under the spell of my current uni course. We are told/reminded of horrible truths every day. If I had trouble sleeping, I... wouldn't sleep.

I want to drown my sorrows in films.

The Lawd: "Yoze, I have come to inform you that the world is totally fecked."
Yoze: "I know. I just traded in my left lung for a square centimetre of lichen in Brazil. I'm watching Closet Land to dull the pain here."
The Lawd: "YOZE, THE WORLD IS TOTALLY FECKED!"
Yoze: "Dude, are you deaf?"
The Lawd: "YOU MUST RIDE OUT AND [censored] MANKIND! OR AT LEAST TURN OFF THE TV! AND WHY HAVEN'T YOU SOLD CLOSET LAND YET?! OMFG IT'S PLASTIC TOO!"
Yoze: *scutter*

Exam question: "This is wee Sweden. What do you think should be done with the land?"
Them Rangers: "Shag Bill Gates. Buy Sweden. Release a few cloned mammoths. Shoot them if they eat more than 20% of the trees."

Biology (like fluffy animals, slimy animals and Alan) and the arts (like paperbacks and popcorn flicks and Alan) are the things I enjoy most at the mo. :)
