The laaaaa' and the Oscars!

The environmental law course kinda sucked. I wasn't Aspie enough to remember the whole law book, like. Didn't have to, but it still would have helped to know all the things one could look for in any given case. :p Whatever, I passed the exam! :D

Funniest environmental law moment.

Teacher: "Blah blah blah... Sure we could have an ecological dictatorship. But who wants to live in such a society?!"
Class: :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) ...
Teacher: "Yeah... You, maybe."
Bloke: "Miss! Miss! Er, actually, several prominent scientists said -"
Teacher: "No, boy! No matter how good your intentions are, power always takes over!"
Yozemind: *flashback to LOTR*

-----------------------------------------

Sacha's got an Oscar nomination! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! So, since I have once again found someone to root for on Oscar night, I will give you my great perfect list of all the nominees plus comments on my faves, which are usually picked for unprofessional and irrelevant reasons. :9

Best Actor
Leonardo DiCaprio, Blood Diamond
Ryan Gosling, Half Nelson
Peter O'Toole, Venus
Will Smith, The Pursuit of Happiness
Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland

I kind of only know about Will and Leo, and I mostly know Leo from Titanic where he grins too much. :p Hehe.

Best Supporting Actor
Alan Arkin, Little Miss Sunshine
Jackie Earle Haley, Little Children
Djimon Hounsou, Blood Diamond
Eddie Murphy, Dreamgirls
Mark Wahlberg, The Departed

I have seen all of the above in 0-1 roles, but Djimon Hounsou was in my dahling Gladiator!

Best Actress
Penelope Cruz, Volver
Judi Dench, Notes on a Scandal
Helen Mirren, The Queen
Meryl Streep, The Devil Wears Prada
Kate Winslet, Little Children

Kate is probably my 2nd fave actress!

Best Supporting Actress
Adriana Barazza, Babel
Cate Blanchett, Notes on a Scandal
Abigal Breslin, Little Miss Sunshine
Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls
Rinko Kikuchi, Babel

Tough choice since Cate rocks, and Abigail may have more future Oscar chances (Has Cate won any?) but she was so cool in Signs, and Little Miss Sunshine sounds like a better movie than Notes on a scandal! Which... I know nothing about... but.

Best Picture
Babel
The Departed
Letters From Iwo Jima
Little Miss Sunshine
The Queen

With one Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine's Abigal Breslin it's only fair that The queen gets an Oscar too, because I'm equally eager to see those two movies.

Best Director
Alejando Inaritu, Babel
Martin Scorsese, The Departed
Clint Eastwood, Letters From Iwo Jima
Stephen Frears, The Queen
Paul Greengrass, United 93

I have seen only United 93, which I thought had great direction! Oh, and the villain soothed my eyes as usual! :B

Best Foreign Film
After the Wedding, Denmark
Days of Glory, Algeria
The Lives of Others, Germany
Pan's Labyrinth, Mexico
Water, Canada

I haven't seen any of the above. Well, Denmark is almost Sweden, and there is a Swede, Rolf Lassgård, in After the wedding! *desperate* (Sweden almost made it though, with a film called Farväl Falkenberg.)

Best Animated Film of the Year
Cars
Happy Feet
Monster House

I have seen neither, but the charming Elijah Wood is in Happy feet, eh? :)

Achievement in Art Direction
Dreamgirls
The Good Shepherd
Pan's Labyrinth
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest
The Prestige

Again I have seen none of these movies, but Johnny was artfully decorated in Pirates 1.

Achievement in Cinematography
The Black Dahlia
Children of Men
The Illusionist
Pan's Labyrinth
The Prestige

Children of men is the only one I've seeeeeeeeen... Yeah, visually nice. (But Clive Owen's voice is nice as hell. :) The human population decrease was the nicest thing, till...)

Achievement in Costume Design
Curse of the Golden Flowers
The Devil Wears Prada
Dreamgirls
Marie Antoinette
The Queen

Uh, well, that is the REAL costume movie, innit? Though I know not when Curse of the golden flowers is set.

Best Documentary
Deliver Us from Evil
An Inconvenient Truth
Iraq in Fragments
Jesus Camp
My Country, My Country

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! XD

Best Documentary Short
The Blood of Yingzhou District
Recycled Life
Rehearsing A Dream
Two Hands

I know all about them! NOT! But hey, recycling is the shit! :)

Achievement in Film Editing
Babel
Blood Diamond
Children of Men
The Departed
United 93

I have no expertise knowledge about editing, but how about United 93. I heard it was filmed in really long takes and it sounded hard to edit. :p They didn't have the hot villain in every shot, however. :/

Achievement in Makeup
Apocalypto
Click
Pan's Labyrinth

Hmm, two options. Pan's labyrinth sounds more intriguing. But then, I only know their titles. :B

Best Original Score
Babel
The Good German
Notes On A Scandal
Pan's Labyrinth
The Queen

God, I've seen neither. I'll go and check who made the scores. *back* I don't know any of them. So, The queen then since it's the one I most want to... see.

Best Original Song
"I Need to Wake Up" An Inconvenient Truth
"Listen" Dreamgirls
"Love You I Do" - Dreamgirls
"Our Town" Cars
"Patience" Dreamgirls

Indeed.

Best Animated Short
The Danish Poet
Lifted
The Little Matchgirl
Maestro
No Time For Nuts

Another mention of the almost Swedish country.

Best Live Action Short
Binta and the Great Idea
One Too Many
Helmer & Son
The Saviour
West Bank Story

Sounds like a bit of fun. *steals name of binta for name collection*

Achievement in Sound Editing
Apocalypto
Blood Diamond
Flags of Our Fathers
Letters from Iwo Jima
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest

Out of these, I would pick Pirates for a movie night...

Achievement in Sound Mixing
Apocalypto
Blood Diamond
Dreamgirls
Flags of Our Fathers
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest

Again Pirates would be my pick, for a night of profound sound-mixing euphoria.

Best Visual Effects
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest
Poseidon
Superman Returns

Superman, for I saw a few stills from it and am still wondering whether the guy was CGI. :p Heehee, is that a compliment on the effects people?

Best Adapted Screenplay
Borat
Children of Men
The Departed
Little Children
Notes on a Scandal

ONLY ONE CATEGORY?! XC

Best Original Screenplay
Babel
Letters From Iwo Jima
Little Miss Sunshine
Pan's Labyrinth
The Queen

Sunshine sounded good... Hmm, it's probably the only TRAILER I've seen out of these, but.

--------------------------------------------------

Now... They're airing the Oscars on some new weird channel which I didn't think we could watch. At least I got an invitation from DA CINEMA CLUB to watch the Oscars in real time at the fancy cinema! 1 hour before takeoff it turned out that we WERE able to watch the channel. PHEW! :O I am now staying at home and happily deev-ing all the little sound mixing and animated short film categories, which evil Normal Channel surely will have emitted from their little summary next week. I SUPPOSE they will at least show The Sacha Category so I haven't been crying.

I'm off! Sacha's gonna WIN!!! :D

I survived Xmas...

...with MY (extended) family. :p I had been dreading it. But keeping away for most of the time worked now, at least.

For the record, this was my first Xmas as an official heathen! :B Since November 23 I belong to no religion! :D I think... For this I get a piece of paper, almost no church tax, and 1 ticket to hell. :q

Here was me original wish list:
-TNC:s Rainforest Fund thingies
-Terrapasses
-...and a few CD:s...

Here is how it actually turned out *MATERIALISTIC XMAS PRESSIE REPORT* :
-Black eco-cotton top (so soft and thick...)
-Booze chocolate (good if one bites a hole in em and pours out the booze)
-Electric toothbrush (I hope my toothpaste isn't too abrasive)
-A friggin huge steel lantern (which I ain't keeping)
-Cash!
-2 decorative birds + 2 decorative trolls (used)
-Some Aloe gel (which I never knew I needed and which contained mysterious ingredients so I passed it on...)
-Soap from Lush
-Shampoo thing from Lush
-A Robbie biography (written by some Swedish tabloid journalist but reasonably respectful *sucks juice*)
-A backpack (my 4-year-old one was perfect, but it has got a hole in the bottom. Hmm. Huh huh huh huh.)
-A wall calendar (featuring JOAQUIN!)
-The da Vinci code soundtrack by Hans Zimmer
-Sparkle in the rain by Simple Minds
-Boy by U2
-A red mini-lantern...
-Some candle (I'm off candles... I hear they contain palm oil... That's just not cosy)
-Knickers made of poisonous cotton (which I'm not keeping either)

VG, hypoxia & 1 Deep British Voice

BRAGGING OD: Got our latest exam results the day before yesterday. First off, we were informed that everybody had survived. The teacher did not know whether to blame our brilliance or his kindness. But you know what they say about Swedish education. Or not.

Well, tawp grayde VG was set at 85% (while it is normally 80%, I think it was because they had had to remove one question afterwards or summat...) and I scored 86.84%! YES! SQUEE! Not expected, as this was a rather abstract and talky exam with a lot of "Discuss, dammit, discuss!" in it. :p Think this VG has been my life goal since I made a miserable little G on a similar course in 2005. :) MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It was extraordinarily sweet to receive 3/3 points for my answer to a Q about "pros and cons of political conservation targets, are such targets appropriate and why, and did we propose other or complementary strategies?" And my answer was split into wee bombshell fragments all over the paper, too. Poor teacher. :B Here be my fatarse, 100% answer, outta the book via me brain, uglily (...) translated, de-messed, with teacher's stapled comments and supposedly approving underlinings in Slytherin green:

Good: -Perhaps the politicians are more likely to stick to decisions which they and not a hippy biologist have made.
-The targets may seem high, which makes the world realise the importance of protection, as even the powerful people set such targets --> everybody takes conservation more seriously and try to contribute to it.
-If people realise that the targets are too low this too can encourage widespread and general conservation?

-It is better than nothing. The populations may survive until the surroundings possibly become more eco-friendly, and then some can spread from the protected areas, which hopefully would not have become too depleted.
Bad: -The targets rarely ARE high (enough)! One hears 5% of a forest or 12% globally, but for many species extinction begins at ~30% of original population/habitat size, and cannot be stopped thereafter. I believe somebody suggested that 70% of the Earth be protected, and a study showed that the targets of scientists and experts are often set about 3 times as high as those of politicians. This may be because the political targets are often compromises and are held back by for example short term economic interests, although they might have been higher to begin with.
-The public may believe that the low targets are sufficient, so that conservation outside of protected area ceases.
-They say nothing of what is to be protected. ["could be said"] The politicians might mainly set aside land which is unprofitable to use, but it may have low natural values. A writer of one article pointed out the importance of protecting primarily hotspots (threatened and rare), that is, concentrating the protection to rain forests and the like.

Measures?: -Education ["good"] about ecology, so that also decision makers, voters, etc want high targets.
-The aforementioned concentration on hotspots. (50% of species on 2% of the land surface = rain forests?)
-Somebody said that areas should be protected based on how productive they are!
-General respect for natural values EVERYWHERE.

To propose 95% protection so that decision makers only could push it down to 50% would perhaps be an illegal scientific lie and falsification of results... unless one included the conflicting interests and the compromise into one's calculations?! ["!"]

A "few"
Homo sapiens less could reduce the problem fundamentally. (The way there might include education --> liberation (of women), + education about ecology, that is, even in the lower grades --> creates necessary motivation... hopefully. However, I don't have the Nobel Prize for social studies/psychology.) There wouldn't be enough people to make an impact on X% of the Earth. Less bickering and agonising over decisions.

excuse the messiness!

["3 good (despite the messiness :) )"]

Sneaked onto dad's comp last night. It loaded Youtube-Letterman :D so damn quickly that I actually had time to hear Sacha say wannabe gangster before the comp was reclaimed by its rightful owner. :9

Speaking of our wannabe gangster - why TV hasn't shown the Ali G movie lately, to feed off the Borat hype, is beyond me. (Which does not say much.)

OMFG, it's June

It surprises me every time...

I just wrote the last exam before summer, it was all inzects (must stop evil murderous Adsense on this topic by spelling mistake), some of which we'd been running around looking at during the last coupla weeks. We spent a week on da eastside, whose inzect fauna is more... famous. The teacher almost died over the fancy inzects we (...) found there. I had got my shit together and brought an ole family macro lens. And my dad's 4 Mpixel camera. :D Some of the fab photos were used in the teacher's presentation one evening and many of our blown-up inzects had the class gasping and fainting and clutching their feeble hearts. :9 I had never used the macro lens before but now I shall reveal all! In a blurry way! :p

Other thrilling events on da eastside:

I learned 1 great new expression. "In copula." *overuses severely*

I was smooched by 2 ticks, but got them out with my bare fingers before they grew to melon-size. Why, that makes my total life tick score 4. Maybe eastside ticks LIKE me, unlike other... ticks... Or all the world's arthropods just collect there since it's so warm and sunny and all...

Think I got 28/30 points today... Only 27/30 points for the bird/mammal exam! :P

No real summer job in sight. Well, I did spend a great part of the job hunting season suspecting I was dying. :C How annoying that I wasn't. But I can lead a Penniless Existence... except for Monday, when I bought a new cam... (My old 2 Mpixels will not do, and dad got tired of my meddling with his cam. This one has 6 Mpixels, an unecessarily huge display, half the amount of batteries, and tiny little microscopic wee buttons that need to be pressed with a needle.) ...ahem, and today, when US dollars were so weak that it seemed stupid not to send The Nature Conservancy a lil something... :B

I have become a faithful user of the auction site Tradera though. At the mo I'm auctioning out 102 horsie pics on a CD. (Cheap to make, but easy for idiots to copy and spread all over, which is against them rulez I have set.) Someone has offered 9 SEK for it so far. :) Er, woohoo.

Also, I have put up an online note offering my cool dog-walking skillz in my area this summer. That is such a 13-year-old-job... but it would be sweet!

I'm off to start reading An awfully big adventure! And soothe my throat with strawberries! Maybe look for some library books in English, and decent trainers... Mum hates my black boots so much that she says she'll pay for trainers. Hehe, one good thing about her superficiality. Later I will go and see The da Vinci code in the Nice Cinema, where I have booked their last seat with extra room for me legs!

Ah, yes... The January exam & Walk the Line!

I always imagined bragging about the January exam result here... if it was good... and sucking the car's exhaust pipe if it was bad...

I'M NOT SUCKING THE EXHAUST PIPE! VG! VG! VG! VG! VG! VG MINUS!

Ahhh, finally another VG. Perhaps I've still GOT IT... *blows at smokin' gun* *downs bottle o' flax seed oil* 8 people failed, 5 scored a G and 7 scored a VG (I was the 2nd worst VG child), IIRC. As the teachers had kind of predicted. :p They are stats geeks after all.

The day after I found out about the, erm, wonderful exam result, yes, thank you lordy, my inner and outer film festival took place. All the invisible children was surprisingly good, although the short film featuring our man David and directed by Ridley Scott and some other Scott was the TOTALLY WEIRDEST one :p and my favourite was that by John Woo. *blows nose... because... because mission: impossible ii was so ballet-ly pwetty even though everyone hated it to bits & besides john was nice to my nick lea*

Then I was washed out from the pwetty cinema on the river of everyone else's tears and met up with my mum with whom I went to see... WALK THE LINE!

One of those films on which I do not have much of an opinion at all... But there was that actor... Yes, that is quite a different case. :) I + EVERYONE *heart* JOAQUIN!

Even my mum was a puddle on the floor: "OMG THE MOVIE WAS SO GOOD! OMG JOAQUIN AND THAT GIRL ARE SO TALENTED! I THOUGHT SHE WAS A PROFESSIONAL SINGER! HOW CAN ACTORS LEARN TO SING LIKE THAT? OMG JOAQUIN IS SO PRETTY! Especially with brown contacts. Yoze, why are you crying? OHHHHHHH, AHHHHHHHHHHH, THAT VOICE! JUST LISTEN! IT'S SO VERY MANLY!"

I shan't whine loudly. It would possibly have received a cooler welcome had I conjured it.

GET ME RIDLEY/JOHN/QUENTIN ON THE PHONE!

It could have been worse though. I loved at least one line:

"Elvis takes it!"

*neigh*

Nah, I'm just sitting here, having entered my third major Joaquin fuzz phase, approximately, and I will make no effort to swim back up. :9 O Joaquin, how can I describe my fuzz 4 thee? It all comes out sounding old (900 million years), superficial, and/or religious. Just listen:

[Sir, we have reason to believe that]
Joaquin is an angel! :D
See?

But really. 20 million monkeys poking 20 million people machines in 20 million people factories for 20 million years will eventually manufacture a... a...

Why am I wasting bandwith trying to explain? Now a relatively large part of the world knows the fuzz.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I bought the soundtrack hours before I saw Walk the line. In the film festival's little shop. Which also offered... mmm... replicas of THE wallet from Pulp fiction. AND it was fake leather. I was severely tempted, but... but... I've got a lovely wallet already... and I'm trying not to be such a Bad Melon Farmer... so... *sniffle*
The soundtrack. I like Joaquin's voice... and Joaquin, so I had to have it of course, but expected to be horrified by the music. I had heard one Cash song that I knew of... Ring of fire. It played around a couple of Joaquin's scenes in U-turn. ROTF. THAT version of the song was perfectly horrifying in THAT feel-bad film... Anyway, I didn't know it was Cash. Later I saw the Walk the line trailer and recognised the song, but I could not think of why. :) I knew Johnny Cash's name mainly thanks to an X-Files ep in which Mulder held up a white shirt and shrieked:
"JOHNNY CASH!"
Threw the soundtrack in the player, threw some mushrooms in the pan. *feels rhythm & goes musical with kitchen utensils* All the songs weren't so fecking bad. :B I still don't feel like listening to the real thing, but my soundtrack faves would be
-Ring of fire...! :p
-Folsom Prison blues
-Home of the blues
-Cocaine blues
-Jackson
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I must make the unoriginal suggestion of a Robbie Williams biopic starring Joaquin! YAY! Their dark hair (um, Yoze, there is dye, otherwise), their green eyes (er, Yoze, did you see that movie Walk the line), their crazy faces, their 1974's, their higher-than-Cash voices (I mean in case Joaquin doesn't wanna work so hard to change his voice again)... I can only prove it by showing you whichever diary I was writing on June 8, 2000 - but on the day I first saw Gladiator, which was the first time I noticed Joaquin, I basically wrote... something like... "THE EMPEROR RESEMBLED ROBBIE." Spoooooooooooky, eh? :D No.

Problem is, I believe Robbie's style will not stagnate and his story will not end until he dies or summat *cries* so Joaquin can't play the young Robbie... Unless, of course, we make a Robbie Williams Biopic Part 1 this decade and keep 'em coming until the story ends. :P *crycrycry*

Or Joaquin can just tour the world and sing Cash songs or whatever he wants, I will kinda listen!
What other spooky opinion have I been harbouring for years? That Joaquin can pass not only for an animated painted wreath-wearing ancient Roman dude, or for Robbie, but also for any of them classic 50's rock stars... at will. (Er, I know nothing of 50's rock.) And I don't think it was just thanks to U-turn... :)

Naturally, these were just my few easy ideas. Our man can play ANYTHING! :x

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm at school and writing this on NO blood sugah whatsoever! Gonna go and gobble down my sandwich, and a packet of thick... smooth... sweet... cholesterol free... chocolate soy milk... The lurking headache softens when one knows such things to be in store... +)
Teacher screws
The dazzling school-quote series continues.
Teacher: "Hello class, I think I'm coming down with the flu, but I'll try to make it through the day. Right. Iron, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, manganese, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, silica, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Sigh... I was gonna go over carbon with you as well... but I say F*CK THE CARBON!"
Class: *ROTFLTAO*
---------------------------
Lucky I've never had the flu, or I would have been forced to throw Teacher in a sack and toss the sack in a hole. :/
Teacher: "All right, here's some info about the excursion on February 28. You will take samples from a lake, using ice drills should there be ice. In any case, you will only sample from depths greater than 3 metres. Yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda. Yoze: *stops envisioning winter-swimming*
I... just find it disturbing when people in movies survive on luck... too often... I know that happens in most movies but HEY, maybe this was the last drop for me or summat. :/ (*SHRUG* At least they suffered a lot of casualties.) I prefer them to survive on brains... I get by on luck myself, though. :D
END OF SPOILERS
Yesterday I caught a(nother) festival film that I *COUGH* liked better! *COUGH* Zaïna, rider of the Atlas. :p Horsies! *horse chills* It was kinda pwetty, never boring but thrilling, and my heart was jumping outta my chest in the last seconds of the race, although I could not imagine it ending another way... :B *woosh* Wonder if that was the same race as in The black stallion returns... Wonder if it still runs... *wants to shoot* Wonder when this was set...
That Elijah film, Everything is illuminated, was sold out btw. :/ Oh well, then I guess it's gonna be a big movie after all then.
I went and got freshly freshly freshly freshly released tix for Walk the line on Friday. (3 h 15 min before that I will see my last 2006 festival film... mmmm... AT TEH FANCY CINEMA!) Ahhhh, I've been waiting... two years or so... AS USUAL...
JOAQUIN HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR ANOTHER OSCAR! THIS TIME IN A LEADING ROLE, EVEN! ALTHOUGH I COULD HAVE GUESSED ALL THAT! :) Weeeeeeeeee! Not that Oscars are all that matter... :9
Fluffy green leftovers
Sorry I have not blogged for two months...! Ehehehe. At first I did not feel I had the time and then I was too tense about the upcoming exam and then I did not want to get sucked into cyberspace for eternity. Originally I had 600 topics piled up, I have now forgotten half of them and cannot be arsed to treat many of the rest. So they will not even join the digital disaster.
OK, I got some good Alan shite for Xmas:
  • Rasputin on DVD! OMG! I had been looking for it for two years... Nice movie! :B Ohhhhhhhh, Alan, I'm in heaven and it's hotter than HELL!
  • The Essential Shakespeare Live. 11 minutes of Alan in As you like it... exactly 20 years ago, minus 3 days! *nostalgic* Not that I saw the play. X'C
Two conversations out of my class, which, as usual, sounded much better IRL - December 2005, conservation seminar flying free as a passenger pigeon (also preferable IRL, but extinct):
E: We must teach the kids to recycle, step by tiny step!
B: We have to INFILTRATE them!
E: That's why we should all become Kindergarten teachers...
M: Rilly, I wasn't going to have kids in this shite world, but then my friend said *I* should have them and not just some moron! *I* should spread my environmentalist habits!
T: Wow, your friend has a good grasp of evolutionary theory.
M: The weird thing is, he's like this total HUMANIST!
Z: OMG!
E: We could adopt kids to pass on our habits.
M: Adopt the morons' kids.
E: Is there an age limit? Cuz if not, you can adopt the morons.
Class: *starts talking about crazy swede who adopted 40-yo indian*
--------------------------------------------
M: I can buy up carbon dioxide emission quotas? Where?! :D
Z: *COUGH* http://www.snf.se/ *COUGH*
M: And THEN, 40 years from now, when their value has gone WAY up, and I'm on my deathbed and childless, I can sell them for much more! 'Course... I won't be able to do anything with my profit... Yes! I can buy heroin for it all! Btw, seriously, if I ever get cancer I'll start doing heroin, it's supposed to be SOOOOOOOOOOOOO sweet! Though it would be tough if the cancer turned out to be some benign kinda skin cancer that could just be SCRAPED OFF!!! ROTF!!!
Note: Sadly, there will be little 2045 heroin for this bloke. I purchased an emission quota and they last only two years. :/ That is still nice I guess. (I gave it to my dad for Xmas, MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!)
But the idea of deathbed heroin is nice! I had heard it before. I was kind of going to... Mmmm, heroin... (Or Nick/Alan/Joaquin/Brad could just pop in...) But that was of course before I realised I wanted to burn all my leftover $$ on rainforest and stuff! Here's what I will do - I shall steal a kid's heroin. Saving the kid, saving more rainforest, enjoying my deathbed. Weeeee, win-win-win.
Unless, of course, the deforestation continues at the present rate, in which case it will all be gone in, what, 40 years??? and I will have to find out the second best alternative. SIGH, I HOPE GOOGLE WILL KNOW IT!!! Heck, anyway, it could happen way before then, if the forests collapse at certain critical sizes. X'C
I am reading the inspiring-depressing-nerve-wracking The future of life by Edward O. Wilson at the mo. OH MY GAAAAAAAAAWD!!! READ IT!!!
*represses a few dark misanthropic forbidden thoughts which might get me thrown off blogger and that would be a drag would it not*
Not counting all the nerdy, subjective ethical reasons, saving this shite would be easy *COUGH*reasoneducationcondomsveggiesandstuff*COUGH*, necessary and profitable for us, anyway. The question is... WILL THEY FIND OUT IN TIME?!
Goddamn, I'm angry, as my platitude-squirting bro would say. Having feelings sure sucks.
I'm a bad environmentalist too. According to my own ethics or whatever, I should kill myself, but... here I am... waiting for... um... Harry Potter 7! Yup! I will try to buy up my own eco-footprint in the meantime! :p At least! Cheaper for vegs. And third-worlders. On average.
Speaking of death, today I almost had a heart attack because...
GAG...
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...
PANT PANT PANT...
GASP...
Elijah Wood is going to be at the scifi con in March!
Now...
  • Elijah is not my favourite actor of all time
  • Brad is my favourite LOTR actor
  • Sean Astin cancelled last minute last year, so I'm not getting any silly hopes up
  • 50 000 000 people will camp outside the con because of Elijah
  • I will lose studying time
  • I will lose money
  • I will lose my dignity
  • I will lose my dignity again as I move on to the next celeb
  • I will perhaps lose my dignity a third time
  • I'm a Pothead, you know
Sure Elijah is among my favourites, and I was quite sweet on him 4 years ago, but half the heart attack was, I'd say, from surprise! :D I would not have thought OUR little con would get such a GIANT so SOON! I think I saw him on the guest list of Collectormania in the UK and said to my buddy "Look, at least Elijah visits cons, and in Europe too, what if he comes to Sweden" but I didn't believe he would! YAY!!!
Oh, and Gawd, if he cancels, replace him with NICK or BRAD plzthanx.
The Gothenburg Film Festival starts today. I haven't gone there since 2001, but now I'm seeing one Brad movie (The Wild Blue Yonder), one Thewlis movie (All the invisible children) and one horse movie (Zaïna, rider of the Atlas). :) THE Joaquin movie was sold out. Oh, it will run in such a nice cinema... :p Well, I was just trying to decide whether I should see an Elijah movie too, I guess I will now... Research and all, ya know... damdidamdidam... It looks funny and the festival tix are kinda cheap and what if I can never find it later in life...
FUNNY, I forgot to mention the exam. "He is evil" echoed through the corridors the next day. The exams have not yet been returned. I suppose they are working their way through mine - a mess of gut feeling and stress. Rhyme. They must either be in therapy or trying not to die from laughter. X'C
I've also quit da horseriding for the time being. Pretty good place, but I am sated at present, fecking climate, OMG other people, walking is exercise too, and the money could be better spent. Hehe... I used to mentally convert all money into DVD's, now it's London and... its opposite. :B
School... Goblet of Fire...! Robbie!
The new course is scary… They all are, but this one seems like MATH HELL!!! :O It’s all theory and models and formulas and moose harvest and that horrible EXCEL... (Granted, they threw in some heavy philosophy too. :B ) Which is... useful... if one is smart... :O
The teachers are two math geniuses who thinks everyone else is a math genius too. How familiar... One of them looks like a cross between David Thewlis and the guy who plays Zaphod Beeblebrox, btw. He’s a hunter and seemed a little scared of our young angry naïve hippy class:
“Hi, yeah, I hunt... Er, not that much though... I just think it’s... *GULP*... nice...”
More fun quotes heard in my class lately:
“So I was sitting here with Excel and I told the teacher ‘I don’t understand a fricken thing!’ and he was like ‘Hohoho, I’m going for a coffee break, hoho.’”
It sounded funny at the time. :p
“Oh, it’s aight, ALL biologists are afraid of math!!”
But none the way *I* am... :S
“Being the first-ever batch of students in our programme meant that we could get in on lower grades, since few people would know about the programme and apply. So... we’re stupider than the younger Rangers.”
“I believe you are right. Being out in the woods, that’s what we’re good at.”
“And having coffee breaks.”
When they said this, I think they had still chopped off more of Excel’s 7 heads than I had.
However, a certain November 18 arrived. This FRIDAY’S Excel task was a pieca greasy cake with no sleepy lecture afterwards. Probably because it was HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE PREMIERE DAY!!! XD It hit me at one point, in the afternoon, giddy-kind of hit me. :D I grabbed the tix and dragged my mum kicking and screaming into the town’s pwettiest cinema. They’ve got like 700 seats and a TINY entrance hall. I think those 700 Potheads were in it anyway.
But it was a nice premiere. :B The best Potter film yet! I can’t say I’ve been enthusiastic about any of the others. But now... heeeey... (Although Prisoner improved when I hadn’t read the book for a while... And I read Goblet in the summer. Stone and Chamber... Uh, at least Snape is in them.) The funniest. (I’m a sucker for comedy.) The most British director. (Um.) The most Sexiest-Alan-Sex-Scene-Ever-Directing director, too. *covers brain in black blanket* So maybe I was feeling extra kind to Newell already. :p
The most out-of-character Snape so far. :B But who minds? Er, fans and artists? Whatever. *runs*
The most squished hope of a Snape + McG tango scene. Possibly the smallest number of Snape lines ever.
But when The Voice was quiet, the man kept SHINING. Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhh. Every time he was on screen, they secretly sprayed those spam-marketed pheromones into the cinema, I tell you! +D~
And he was down there with MANY of the minor characters, I thought, as far as lack of screentime goes... :/
I STILL NEED THE DVD, NOW!!! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAPE!!! (AND IT HAAAAAAAS TO INCLUDE THE SNAPE TANGO SCENE, YOU HEAR?!?)
And I need a GoF in 15 minutes... I hope y’all read PoA in 15 minutes. *love*
Oh well, fave moments that I can recall, in some kinda chronological order:
*** GOBLET OF FIRE SPOILER WARNING ***
  • Pwetty Barty Crouch Jr. Hey, was that the shadow David I spotted in Leicester Square? (:B
  • Ron waking up to find, AAAAAAAARGH, HERMIONE all over him.
  • Lucius scene #1! :D
  • The twins and the gang partying after the World Cup. Something beautiful about it all. :p
  • Filch’s run. WHY?!?
  • Snape: “...”
    Karkaroff: “...”
  • Dumbledore: “OMG entering the tournament will kill you ded!”
    The twins: “WICKED...!”
  • SNAPE spotting the Goblet spitting out Harry’s name.
  • Snape: *stands around*
    Mum: *nudge*
    Yoze: “SQUEAK!”
  • Sad Ron. Awww.
  • Cho: *sits around*
    Harry: *totally loses control & sprays his juice all over the great hall*
  • Snape on the ground, covered in splinters after the dragon flies over him. Poor baby!
  • Owls.
  • Harry: *lies depressed on sofa, egg on his chest, cho on his mind*
    Crowd: “Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...”
  • Snape whacking Harry and Ron repeatedly, taking great care to set their heads straight, rolling up his sleeves... XD *gasps at sight of suddenly revealed snape hands* Go Snape! It’s SO very disturbing when people gossip loudly all over study rooms! :p
  • Snape thoroughly hiding behind a book while Twin asks out Angelina. By throwing objects at her.
  • Snape looking really strict and tense (wow, news) when Hermione hands him her book. “Dammit, I can’t bite her head off!”
  • McG: “Nowyouknow!”
  • Hermione trying to send Harry and Ron to bed.
  • Hermione freaking out at Ron after the ball.
  • Depressed ball princess Hermione hugging her sore foot on the steps.
  • Neville staying out all night... DANCING... Yup... ;B
  • Hermione describing the physical Krum. *snort*
  • Cedric almost asking Harry for a prefect’s bathroom date. XD
  • Harry: *strips*
    Crowd: “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” (Not me, you pervs! I was smart enough to stuff a handkerchief into my mouth!)
  • The blatant Moaning Myrtle vs The Foam.
  • Neville: “OMG! I killed Harry Potter!”
    Dumbledore: “You bahstahd!”
  • Snape’s cosy store room.
    *locks door*
    Ladder: *creak*
    *sound of glass breaking from inside store room as snape and ratexla practise the tango and let me tell you, ratexla will never learn*
    *screams of pain from toe-stepping*
  • Snape climbing the ladder, quickly, smoothly, like some small animal... *scutter scutter*
  • Filch firing his cannon way too early about three times! :O What if it had been Snape? Someone would have needed to... tutor him in the art of... self-control...
  • Cool Ralph Fiennes. Scene #1! :D Oh, Face Scene #1, then.
  • Lucius scene #2! :D
  • Snape pouring a whole bucket of Veritaserum into Barty Jr. :B
While I personally didn’t care much about the World Cup or ferret scenes, I’m happy they kept them in, even though critics whined that they were UNNECESSARY: “Those scenes were only there to please the fans! BOOHOO!” Tough shite. I can think of a few more “unnecessary” SPICY UPCOMING SCENES. May the script writers never listen to those boring, Pothead-hatin critics.
*** END OF GOBLET OF FIRE SPOILER WARNING ***
I recently found out that Steve Kloves loves Alan very much. :D I guess it isn’t Kloves’s fault if they cut out loads of goodies either... He won’t write The Order of the Phoenix, but The Half-Blood Prince! And then Snape WILL be IMPORTANT, DAMMIT (even in the eyes of Potheadophobic critics)! Right?! Love + importance = hope for... er... 1 more second of Snape.
AND they want to film Order and Prince back-to-back. Can we hope for a... summer 2008 release of Prince?
Oh god... That is frighteningly distant... (I’ll be fresh out of uni, most likely hunting a DVD shop job! One of my “dream shite jobs”.)
Apparently the Order writer wrote the Peter Pan film, and someone said that a lot from that book was kept in. Mmmm, please feed us Order Snape... *opens little red beak*
Hey. Kloves says Alan is the only one who can act out ellipses? *learns word* I overuse ellipses! THIS IS A SIGN. Or not. :p
----------------------------------
In other newz, Robbie Williams is finally finally coming to MY town! I would have travelled to Stockholm to see him, did that in 2003, when I had become tired of waiting for a Gothenburg concert... But this is nice. (Mostly because I don’t get Stockholm’s tube system.) They sold 52 000 x 2 tix in 25 h! :D My Robbie-loving mum and I are going... I have to get to the front row. *dreams nightmares of 2nd row* Last time I was in 5th row or so... :B
*rustle*
Right... I'll need to be dehydrated to within an inch of fainting on Sunday so I won't have to worship porcelain gods instead of celebs. :9 Wonder how early I should quit DRINKING EXCESSIVELY. No pleasure is complete without a cuppa, is it? *bored* Mmm, I fancy a cuppa. I can't replace my cuppas with chocolate (found organic coffee-strong kind today, maybe it'll go well with them organic bananas ;B ) in case that causes acne. Who wants to drown the luvely celebs in pus?
Now I'm really gonna settle down with the thinnest book of the next course, so that I'll HAVE A BLOODY CHANCE... :O
Two years of a fuller life!
On October 30, 2003 I caught myself thinking a lot about that ALAN guy. :D
ONE WEEK TO GO AND THEN - the Alan-less Goblet of Fire London premiere. And Jason isn't in the UK. And David isn't in the film. And Emma Thompson wasn't at the last premiere. And... And... And I still suspect school will stupidly try to keep me in Sweden. It's 99% paranoia though. Anyway, I think I COULD tell a funeral tale rather than waste 10 weeks (course) and 1000 SEK (London). IT HAS TO WORK OUT!!! XC I'll know by Thursday... +P
Tomorrow I will turn in the last two crap papers of this past course. Extremely interesting course - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA - and at least I've learned SOMETHING and am now whipped by more panic than before, I think, woohoo, but my grade will SUCK! 6 papers and no exams. It's been nearly impossible to fail, but since I've never seen a whole or drawn a conclusion in my LIFE I won't get star grades either.
There are 3 levels here:
U = Failure
G = OK
VG = Can I Have My Picture Taken With You?
Teacher: "Oh, you can work together with someone on this first paper... AS LONG AS I DON'T SEE YOU DO IT! GROWL!"
Classmate, later: "YAY! Got a VG- for Paper 1, I'd never have made it if I hadn't worked together with someone! :D"
Teacher, talking to someone nearby: "If you scored a G+ here and do great on the other papers, I'll start thinking about giving you a total grade of VG."
Lone Ranger Yoze biting her G: "@£$€#¤%&@£$%!!!"
Not that I expected to do great on any papers, but in any case - who will want to hire One Of Them Rangers with a G in conservation biology?! :p The most effective thing to do might be suicide asap, so I can give all my earthly posessions to conservation projects. :B
Kidding... I suppose... Until I see the grade of my next course, which also seems very relevant to my future, that is... SNIFF. XC I'M GONNA FECKING GO FOR A HIGHER GRADE THERE!!! DAMMIT!!! WHIP ME HARDER!!! OOOOOH YEAH!!!
Moreover, they say a similar course will come up a few years from now. WHIP!!!
BUT! I can settle for something less than American minister for the environment. :D *canned laughter* (Hmm, wonder if they have such a minister???) Any dirty old conservation work would feel more or less meaningful. (Just gimme $$ for tea, planes, hot water, broadband and other basic necessities. +P Dude, maybe I should be under a bridge.) I see myself building fences. In certain pretty places. Hehehehehehehe. Hehehe. Or getting shot by poachers and left to die slowly for 5 days. Or (if lousy Rangers don't get shot) guarding an area against some evil company's bulldozers. (Ahem ahem. Wonder if anyone would give you tea money for that.) Or writing panicky things on milk packets. For example "Quit drinking this goddamn milk, [insert methane emission stats here], HAAAAAHA!"
Then again, they say vv few biologists find work in their field. If that problem persists (which a lot of people say it won't, and just for the sake of the planet I hope they are right, and they also say the world's been waiting for them omnipotent Rangers) I can always deny that my future position behind the register at McMurder (THAT WILL BE MURDER! GAWD I'M FUNNY!) had anything to do with my grades. :p
Siiiiiiiiiiigh.
One week of the extremely interesting course was spent 130 km away, in that luxurious hotel again. (Where I did NOT stay with THE GUY this time!!! We were 4 lasses in one room instead. Huh, huh, huh. Nah. Oh, and I already shared that vision of olive oil and pink pillows with someone.) We sat around sippin tea and discussing the big questions, such as "WTF are we gonna say to convince Bush once he lets us into his cosy office???" I don't know why we couldn't do that at school. (The discussions, I mean...!) Maybe they didn't want our everyday lives to distract us, someone suggested. :9 *licks vegan gourmet food which i hope was rilly vegan all the time, ahem* It was quite pleasant, we watched photos and docus at night, and the paper I wrote there got a higher grade than the previous one. G+/VG-. *whip* Which, then, officially doesn't mean sh*t.
Finger that mouse every day!
Make ClickAndSave your starting page and click on SOMETHING every day! DO IT!!! DO IT!!! DO IT!!! DO IT!!! CLICK!!!
And my new e-mail addy is ratexla_kettleburn83@planet-save.com :B *re-reads* Ah... Finally my luv for Nick & Alan will be nakedly obvious to anyone who wants to communicate with me, while 5 square feet of rainforest are saved by each e-mail I send! 8O GET YOUR OWN PLANET-SAVE ADDY, PWETTY PLEASE WITH SAP ON TOP! :x
With luck, the sites are true AND the laws protecting the saved pieces have TEETH.
OK, I've been growing sick of myself again and figured I could sweep up the great(est) number of species with each click if I found a, ahem, well-known and trustworthy rainforest charity. That old treehugger is blooming under the spell of my current uni course. We are told/reminded of horrible truths every day. If I had trouble sleeping, I... wouldn't sleep.
I want to drown my sorrows in films.
The Lawd: "Yoze, I have come to inform you that the world is totally fecked."
Yoze: "I know. I just traded in my left lung for a square centimetre of lichen in Brazil. I'm watching Closet Land to dull the pain here."
The Lawd: "YOZE, THE WORLD IS TOTALLY FECKED!"
Yoze: "Dude, are you deaf?"
The Lawd: "YOU MUST RIDE OUT AND [censored] MANKIND! OR AT LEAST TURN OFF THE TV! AND WHY HAVEN'T YOU SOLD CLOSET LAND YET?! OMFG IT'S PLASTIC TOO!"
Yoze: *scutter*
Exam question: "This is wee Sweden. What do you think should be done with the land?"
Them Rangers: "Shag Bill Gates. Buy Sweden. Release a few cloned mammoths. Shoot them if they eat more than 20% of the trees."
Biology (like fluffy animals, slimy animals and Alan) and the arts (like paperbacks and popcorn flicks and Alan) are the things I enjoy most at the mo. :)
Jane Ey-Something by Charlotte Bront-Something does Norway
Wow, I've got a blog? OK, since last time...
1. I went back to Norway. I did all the typical energetic Norway activites last year & shot all the mountains I could, so this time around I just READ. Jane Eyre - everyone talks about it. As usual, I suspect the majority of Everyone are Rickmaniacs. :D No doubt whom they had discussed as a role for Alan, even though I could not remember any names.
Mr Rochester...
AND HOW RIGHT THEY WERE! ALAN HAS TO PLAY MR ROCHESTER OR I'LL SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM!
Evil producer: "Yeah Yoze, you just screamed. Forget the whole film. *BLAM*"
2. I passed the floristics, I MEAN HERBOLOGY, exam which everyone knew they were going to fail. Especially after the teacher told us he had ALMOST failed his. The plants we'd learned by heart were... easy enough, but then we had to identify the other half of the exam plants using a key, ie knowing what the hell the little book meant by "hairy", "red", "large" and "stinkin'", exactly.
Our greatest fear were the horribly difficult grasses. The grasses were our arch enemies. At least there wouldn't be more than 1 grass out of the 15 key exam plants... would there?
It would. 2/15 plants were grasses. I got them both wrong. Dragged down my grade. The grasses must all DIE!
Except oat.
3. At least I could now allow myself to go and see... The Island! The first movie I saw in the cinema mainly (in this case only) because of Ewan... Lucky I went though, because it wasn't as bad as They want you to believe. It was... in fact... about...
THE MEAT INDUSTRY
...I chose to think. Therefore I am extra annoyed that it flopped, if that's what happened! Oh well, now YOU know, so go & devour some propaganda spiced with the LOVELY EWAN!!! *stalks writer to ask about diet*
Blow up the planet, quick!!!
More old news...
Our wonderful exam results came back... after 3 weeks, which would be normal, but I was still chewing my own arm and becoming phobic of all things geology: "AAAAAAAAAA, ROCK!!! CLOUD!!! CLOUD!!! RUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!"
Cuz:
  • Everyone wanted to kick somebody's arse after said exam, which had consisted of 9 unfairly picky little questions from 539645 teachers (OK...) after a 10-week course and promises of exam questions about The Big Picture
  • Down at another institution the tradition is to actually hurry up with the exam marking which has made me a spoiled brat
  • All my other courses have been ~5 weeks... This one was 10. Double waste of time, it might have been
  • They didn't tell us exactly which pages to read. Book had 700 of them. "Oh, just all of them. Pretty much." In the last coupla weeks we were given a list. Could have skipped a fair few pages after all and played in the sun. Though half the time when teachers say one should read the whole book, it means "at some point in your life"
  • Number of pages per course day: Normal. UNLESS one considers that we spent almost half the course doing a project, field trip, etc. Unfair number of pages, in the end
  • Kindly enough, they had lowered the original magic limit by 2%. Awww. ONE OF WHICH SAVED MY SORRY ARSE!!!
Now bow down to me because I saved you from this geo-course which you had all planned on taking anyway, right!
I PASSED THE EXAM!!!
*lands, panting, with a thud on the asphalt*
(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! ASPHALT!!!)
6 people failed, 16 OK, 3 ruddy brilliant sorta. I was the second worst of the unfailed bunch.
PHEW ANYWAY!!! OMFG!!!
Not my worst uni result ever, but I've never been so close to FAILURE!!! 59%!
*sweats and stares into canyon*
(CANYON!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!)
I did score about 80% when I tried the book's much larger online self-test though, so WTF!?
Well. LUCKY BAHSTAH'D ME!!!
The worst result, I suppose, was from one Potions exam.
Hmpf. Potions schmotions.
(NOT REALLY, IN MY CASE!!! BOOOOHOOO!!!)
Rock schmock.
Geo-teacher: "And over there in the corner of the picture is some... ah, some of that green bio schmio stuff. Let's move on."
--------------------------
On the 0th day of summer, I visited the city's most beloved record shop where REM were slated to sign things at 5pm. I only like one of their songs, Reno-something, which reminds me of a time when I was through-the-roof anxious about something. Anyway, I thought a snapshot of Michael Stipe would be fun to have in the celeb collection since I had been tortured with, erm, I mean hearing REM songs on the radio and MTV for 8 years.
I lurked around. The shop was mysteriously quiet. I foraged for every CD I could think of while glancing into all the dark corners, then I gave up, bought some moderately complete Lord of the Rings soundtrack and spotted the REM ad. They signed at 3pm, not 5pm.
STUPID BAHSTAH'D ME!!!
LUCKY BAHSTAH'D ME, THAT I DO NOT LOVE THEM!!!
I wished a damn happy 43rd b-day to Nicholas Lea on JUNE 22!!! :D
Stories from within that steamy minivan
Over a month has now passed since the unsteamy field trip and everyone gives less of a damn than ever before! But there are still some cool (nobody will agree) memories that want to echo in eternity online.
1. On May 16, we buzzed past a cute yellow hotel where, according to a native in the minivan, Nicole Kidman stayed during the filming of Dogville. How cool. I wonder if Joaquin stayed there while they were making It's all about love? OMG. I was too stupid to make myself remember the name of any nearby village thing, but I think I've got a coupla landmarks... Two hefty famous hills. If Joaquin returns - and I've never heard him say that he'd want to :D - I'll just have to drive around the hills for a few hours until I spot this yellow Star!Hotel! Yay! *lurks in bushes and fails miserably at stalking when joaquin chooses completely different hotel... or continent*
All the other fave actors are hotly welcome, too. :p
Then another minivan passenger claimed he had spotted Kidman while walking past (sure, sure) the London premiere of Eyes wide shut. Kewl. He said Tom Cruise was also at the scene, but too short to be visible behind the crowd. Hmm, I don't spend my entire cinema budget on Nic and Tom (...), but they would make good Celebrity Collection Trophies...
2. We often listened to the Remember the Titans soundtrack. Hmm, not too bad. *smokes pipe thoughtfully* I had one week to start believing that it was in fact packed with classic oldie-artists whose names I had heard 100000 times, but never listened to. Now that I was feeling old anyway, and developing some... fine... taste... I should look for more of their music to enjoy, and join the grumpy snobby mid-1900s music crowd, and become cooler.
I went home and googled some lyrics. Never heard about any of the artists with the better songs. Sigh. Poor wee wannabe snob.
3. On May 17 we were out on a long drive and U2:s City of blinding lights started on the radio. The sun flickered between mysterious tree tops. I was travelling in one of my fave parts of Sweden. The road was narrow and winding. I got high, mainly on U2. Happens a lot, especially when they take me by surprise. And FTR, I DIDN'T actually drive.
*wee u2-booming car swivels in zig-zag along road*
All right... Until I remember some more... *wheeze* Good-bye...
PS. Woohoo. I've been a Douriphile for 6 months today!
